Kudos to Kapaa air riflery coach Ian Versammy on posting high scores for the third straight week! Janice Manique getting the best score for the girls, and Ian Kimura (Coach V said we can’t go by the color of his hair) got the best marks for the boys.
Kudos, too, to the Island School girls volleyball team on a great win at home Tuesday night.
All of this adds to the excitement of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation who saw a large crowd at the Wilcox Gymnasium (was that Beef Stew on the menu?), and will probably get the crowds out, Friday when Round 1 ends.
Lee Steinmetz is getting excited about the Rice Street Block Party coming up Sept. 23 in and around Kalena Park. He and Lani Milnes were dropping off one of the benches at the Regency at Puakea (Randi Peters said they had a lot of items on display at the Kupuna Art Showcase) where the kupuna will do their magic in painting up the benches. Lee said other benches will be painted by the Boys & Girls Club, Lihue Clubhouse (they started right after school), and Hale Opio and will be on display during the block party.
Chantal Zarbaugh of The KQNG Radio Group was excited that Vanessa Owens from Kapaa High School got a few of her art class students to paint the building (the sugar canes are awesome!) used by Derek Kawakami as campaign headquarters during his previous election campaigns.
