LIHUE — The public is invited to the Rice Street Block Party, a free family- focused event, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, to experience a revitalized Rice Street District, and to see what proposed Rice Street improvements will look like as a part of the Lihue Town Core Mobility and Revitalization Project.
Rice Street from the Rice Shopping Center to Hardy and Kalena streets will be closed from 3 to 9:30 p.m. for the block party. Kress Street will also be closed from Rice to Halenani streets.
Free parking will be available at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
“I encourage our community and our visitors to enjoy the festivities,” said Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho Jr.
From 8 a.m. until pau, a keiki zone at Kalena Park will feature a keiki basketball tournament with free shave ice, hot dogs, popcorn, chips and drinks.
Entertainment includes artists Makana, Revival, 1st Cut, as well as performances by Wilcox School students, Taiko Kauai and Art of Mime.
Proposed Rice Street improvements are part of the Lihue Town Core Mobility and Revitalization Project, which was funded through a $13.8 million TIGER grant.
