Emery Joseph Opu‘ulani Kaiawe Gifford
Emery Joseph Opu‘ulani Kaiawe Gifford of Anahola passed away on Aug. 19, 2017, at the age of 80. He was born on Dec. 24, 1936, in Lihue, and raised in Niumalu. He was a retired security guard at Wilcox Medical Center. He also worked at Hanalei Bay Resort and Better Brands, and served in the U.S. Navy.
He is preceded in death by wife Elizabeth Kauo, mother Adelaide Gifford Calkin, sister Lynette Vaughan and his beloved grampa and gramma George and Annie Kaiawe.
He is survived by wife Carylee Gifford, stepsons Joel Pahukula of Puhi and Kaleo (Andrea) Pahukula of Maui, sisters Marie (Jim) Watson of Florida and Ilona Souza of Lihue, niece Puanani (Scott) Knight of Maui, nephews Marc Souza and Michael Prioste of Honolulu and Patrick (Kimberly) Beaman of Idaho, and grandchildren Jayden, Jaxson and Kamalei Pahukula of Maui. He is also survived by numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.
Family and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Borthwick Mortuary in Koloa. Visitation is at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetary in Hanapepe. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Jessie Delos Santos Fernandez
Jessie Delos Santos Fernandez of Hanamaulu passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Aug. 17, 2017, at the age of 45. He was born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Feb. 17, 1972 and was employed as a landscaper with Kauai Ranch.
He is survived by daughter Haunani Jesslyn Fernandez of Oahu, parents Irineo and Rosita Fernandez of Hanamaulu, brother Joe (Lynn) Fernandez of Hanamaulu, sisters Janet (Johnny) Asuncion of Honolulu and Jenalyn (Kekoa) Shimizu of Honolulu, nieces and nephews R.J. Fernandez, Christian Fernandez, Shyann Fernandez, Jhon Asuncion, Jhaythan Asuncion, Jazmyne Shimizu and Kamrin Shimizu, and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7 at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.

John Filomeno Tangalin
John Filomeno Tangalin of Kapaa passed away at home on Aug. 26, 2017, at the age of 97. He was born in Lihue on March 11, 1920, and retired from the state of Hawaii Department of Health Vector Control division.
He was preceded in death by wife Virginia Tangalin, brother Ben Tangalin, sisters Ramona Lemi, Jessi Aldridge and Mary Lorenzo.
He is survived by wife Denise Thomson, sons John (Nancy) Pauole, John (Bernadette) Tangalin Jr., Leroy Tangalin, Thomas “Tula” (Jeri) Tangalin, Casey Thomson-Tangalin and James (Amanda) Thomson-Tangalin, daughters Leilani (Donald) Doyle and Veronica (Norman) Sakaguchi, hanai daughter Shanti (David) Reinhardt-Kanter, 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.

Raymond Edwin Hanamuku Viado
Raymond Edwin Hanamuku Viado of Wailua Homesteads passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 28, 2017, at the age of 70. He was born in Lihue on Nov. 27, 1946, and retired as a groundskeeper with the state of Hawaii Department of Hawaii Public Housing Authority.
He was preceded in death by parents Jesus and Grace Viado and sister Dolly Ragudo.
He is survived by wife Brenda, daughters Moana (John) McAdams of Maryland and Waiola (Dwayne) Horn of Colorado, brothers James (Linda) Viado, George Viado of Kauai and Alfred (Pam) Viado of Oregon, granddaughter Malana Horn, grandson Kekoa Horn of Colorado, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Catherine Church on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe, Kauai at 1 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and graciously declines flowers.

Leonora K. Kelekoma, 87, of Anahola, passed away on Aug. 21, 2017, at her home.
Born on April 27, 1930, in Hanalei, she was a cannery worker and domestic engineer.
She was preceded in death by parents Dimiliciano and Irene Inanod, brothers George Inanod, Sylvester Inanod and Steven Inanod, sister Kathleen “Bones” Inanod, daughter Paulette Kelekoma, son-in-law Leonard “Boy” Silva, and grandchild Conrad Silva.
She is survived by her husband Clay Kelekoma Sr. of Anahola, sons Patrick (Judy) Kelekoma of Princeville, Philibert (Rosarie) Kelekoma of Wailua, Clay (Laurie) Kelekoma of Hanamaulu, Bruce (Leanor) Kelekoma of Anahola and Jonah Kelekoma of Anahola, daughters Priscilla Silva of Las Vegas, Pearl Kaukani of Anahola and LeeAnn (David) Fernandez of Anahola, grandchildren Yolanda (Joshua) Synder, Patrick Kelekoma Jr., Hiram Kaukani III, Wesley (Machell) Kelekoma, Jeremiah Ramos, Irene Tanioka, Cassenne Pascual, Tobey (Frank) Kelekoma-Hayes, Laynie Kelekoma, Keoni Kelekoma, Kailee Kelekoma, Breanna Kelekoma, Alyssa Wilson, Dustin “Aina” (Rayleen) Fernandez, Bronson “Alika” Fernandez and Rhandie Fernandez, brothers Val (Sandy) Inanod of Kilauea, Julio (Cecilia) Inanod of Kilauea and Wayne “Winki” (Sharon) Inanod of Kapaa, sisters Dolores “Dolly” Watanabe of Las Vegas and Elizabeth “Nani” (Yoshi) Harada of Wainiha, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
