Don’t forget to check out the county’s health and wellness fair at the convention hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is being hosted by Theresa Koki of Life’s Choices Kauai in the Office of the Mayor (congratulations on signing the memo of understanding which allows us four night football games this year!) and the Committee on the Status of Women. which has a breast cancer walk coming up Oct. 4.
That’s the same week Josie Pablo (she connected with Santa — aka Phil Worwa — for her Christmas lighting program, too!) and the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital will be doing their breast cancer walk on Oct. 6 from 9:30 a.m. at Ke Ala Hele Makalae near the Kapaa Neighborhood Center…just look for all the decorations.
More healthy living is on tap Saturday when the Rice Street block party (Jim Guerber said they’ll have barbecue that day) takes place from 5 p.m., and Lenny Rapozo (Kelson Rapozo said the Lihue Lakers have two teams playing) is looking forward to the 3-on-3 basketball tournament that is part of the keiki fun coordinated by Lori Koga.
Scott Johnson (they had their regular locomotive fire-up day last Thursday) will have his steam locomotive going for rides as part of the Grove Farm Ohana Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is celebrated in conjunction with the Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live! with food and family fun at the museum as well as at the Locomotive Interactive Learning Park on Haleko Street in Lihue, and the Waioli Mission House Museum in Hanalei.
