PUHI — Sit behind the wheel of an electric vehicle for free on Saturday and learn a thing or two about how they work during the Kauai EV Alliance’s EV Ride-and-Drive event.
“We are offering free electronic test drives or rides in several different electric vehicles, and the opportunity to chat with EV owners,” said Sonja Kass, of Kauai EV Alliance.
Volunteers and EV owners can answer questions about electric vehicles, tax credits, rebates, charging infrastructure, local and state policy, electricity cost versus gas, EVs in the visitor industry and purchase incentives.
Kauai EV Alliance is hosting the event in partnership with Kauai Community College and the National Drive Electric Week. It will be located at the KCC farmer’s market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The KCC automotive department will also be on hand to answer questions.
The event will highlight advantages of owning an EV, including less expensive maintenance, zero oil changes necessary, fewer moving parts and the convenience of plugging into a wall versus visiting a gas station.
A list of current vehicle models will be available, as well as other literature explaining vehicle options and incentives.
“Electric vehicles are not just great for clean air and the environment in general, they’re also fun to drive,” Kass said.
