Editor’s note: Old-timers might still remember the introduction from “The Shadow” radio program: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as Da Shadow, since 2004 has been meeting with government representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.
Ke Ala Hele Makalae
When will the broken white fencing along Ke Ala Hele Makalae be replaced or repaired?
This fencing collapsed as a result of a culvert that is eroding. The Department of Parks and Recreation has ordered a new culvert. Once received, the culvert will be replaced and the fencing can be repaired.
Skateboard park
What happened to the plans to update the skateboard park at the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex?
Several years back a community group had expressed interest in partnering with the county to renovate the Kapaa skate park. The county would have provided matching funding for this project, but the organization has since withdrawn their proposal. The county has no immediate plans to renovate the existing skate park.
Mailihuna Road, Kapaa
As you are driving down Mailihuna Road near the stop sign at the bottom of the hill, there is a ditch that is full of debris and a clogged culvert. Are there any plans to clear this area? Are there plans to build a retaining wall for the safety of the public?
