Kenichi ‘Stupe’ Shimogawa
Kenichi “Stupe” Shimogawa, 92, of Kalaheo, passed away on Dec. 12, 2017, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
Born on March 3, 1925 in Koloa, he was a retired as a fuel farm operator, meat cutter, football official, school crossing guard at Kalaheo School, and in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by parents Shigeru Shimogawa, Mitsuyo and George Lemon, brothers Kenneth “Kazu,” Kiyoshi Shimogawa, George Lemon Jr., sisters Janet Kiyono Wakamoto, Betty Yaeko Ihara and Viola “Nana” Kim.
He is survived by wife Mary Shimogawa of Kalaheo, sons Duane Shimogawa of Lawai and David (Rosanne) Shimogawa of Kalaheo, daughters Keiko (Jeff) Pu‘u of Lawai, Kathy (Ricky) Carveiro of Lawai, Debbie Bahnmiller (hanai) of Wailua, grandchildren Shantelle Manibog, Kainoa (Dan) Sheldon, Adrian (Tammy) Pu‘u, Duane (Beth) Shimogawa Jr., Aeson (Robyn) Pu‘u, Gavin Shimogawa and Marcus Shimogawa, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Soares, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Kalaheo Missionary Church from 8 to 9:45 a.m., where memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire, and requests that flowers be omitted.

Merly de Vera Cruz
Merly de Vera Cruz of Kapaa passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Dec. 4, 2017, at the age of 72. She was born on May 2, 1945, in Ranao Bani, Pangasinan, in the Philippines. She retired as a registered nurse from Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Juan Cruz, and her second husband, Joseph Stason, and her parents, Geronimo de Vera Sr. and Egliberta Orlanda.
She is survived by son John Michael Cruz, daughter Marian Cruz, and granddaughter Kambree Takekuma.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church. Viewing will begin at 8 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m., then burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Attire is casual.

Merrell Arden Kanani Cardejon
Merrell Arden Kanani Cardejon, 70, of Kekaha, passed away on Dec. 11, 2017, at his home in Kekaha.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1947, in Hilo.
He was preceded in death by father Salvador Cardejon and mother Hannah Hi‘ilei Cardejon.
He is survived by wife Gweneth P. Naka‘ahiki Cardejon of Kekaha, son Chris (Roxanne) Cardejon of Kekaha, daughters Ardis (Aaron) Weight of Nevada, Mona-Ann Cardejon of Honolulu and Mernette Cardejon of Honolulu, grandchildren Kristian Cardejon, Kira Cardejon, Hannah Weight, Austin Weight and Henry Weight, brothers Nephi (Sherry) Cardejon of Arizona, Donlee Cardenjon of Nevada, Jared (Melissa) Planas of Ewa Beach, sister Noelette (Richard) Poulsen of Utah, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Dec. 22, at the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kekaha Ward from 9 to 10:45 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery.
The family suggests aloha attire.

Nicky Rikio Omura
Nicky Rikio Omura, 51, of Kalaheo, passed away on Dec. 8, 2017, at his home in Kalaheo.
Born on Nov. 22, 1966 in Aiea, Oahu, he was a drywall contractor.
He was preceded in death by parents Mitsuo and Gladys Omura.
He is survived by wife Michelle Omura of Kalaheo, niece Brianne Omura, nephew Makana Omura, brothers Douglas (Jessie) Omura, Jeffrey Omura and Joel (Betty) Omura, all of Oahu, and sister Wendy (Lester) Walker of Oahu.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Mililani Kingdom Hall (2) of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 239 Palii Street, Mililani, Hawaii, at 5 p.m., with services to be held at 6 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire, and requests that flowers be omitted.

Russell Earl Andrade
Russell Earl Andrade of Wailua passed away at home on Dec. 12, 2017, at the age of 72.
He was born on Kauai on Sept. 2, 1945, and worked in construction.
He was preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Angeline Andrade.
He is survived by daughters Kuulei (Kapena) Cummings and Karina Andrade, best friend Pamela Andrade, grandchildren Kahiau Kamala, Halia Andrade, Kiran Rivera, Kayla Rivera, Russden Andrade, Ezra Cummings and Raeden Andrade, sister Susan (Bernard Duarte) Andrade, brothers Carlos (Maile) Andrade, Pierre (Susan) Andrade, Paul (Nancy) Andrade and Kimo (Margaret) Andrade, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Agnes Grace Correia Cadinha
Agnes Grace Correia Cadinha passed away peacefully on Dec. 14, 2017, at the age of 95, after a brief illness.
Born to the late Guillermina (Minnie) and Joseph Correia in Kapaa, Territory of Hawaii, she was predeceased by husband Stanley, brothers Joseph Jr. (Sonny), Thomas (Tommy), Clement (Clemmie) and William (Billy), sisters Hilda Santos, Mary Rapozo, Sophie Soares, Matilda (Tillie) Soares and Betty Jean (Jeannie) Thronas.
She is survived by sister Geraldine (Gerry) Ferreira of Kapaa, son Paul (Karen) of Anderson, California, daughters Susan Marks, M.D. (Michael) of Hillsborough, California, and Joan Pulizzano (Steven) of San Francisco, grandchildren Paulette Hansen, Nicole Cadinha, Ethan and Eliana Marks and Danielle Pulizzano, and a large ohana in Hawaii and the Mainland. Stan, Agnes and their infant son moved from Honolulu to San Francisco in 1954.
Although her adjustment from tropical Hawaii to cold, damp San Francisco was difficult, she stuck it out and lived the remainder of her life in the City by the Bay. As a young woman with few opportunities for education, she pursued the only path available, namely, secretarial college.
She worked for Matson Lines in Honolulu as the executive secretary to Mr. Matson until the birth of her son. She later worked for many years at Herbert Hoover Middle School, utilizing her great organizational skills making sure every student had their required textbooks and that the library was stocked with books. She was one of the few remaining who could tell entertaining and humorous stories about growing up on Kauai before WWII and life in Hawaii during the war years.
We will miss her many stories and large family gatherings. She was the “matriarch” of 28th Avenue. The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Margaret Rendon for the kindness and devotion she bestowed on our mother in her last few years, and especially the last six months. Internment will be private.
A memorial mass and service celebrating her life will be held at St. Anne’s (Judah at Funston) on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Anne’s of the Sunset, 850 Judah Street, San Francisco, CA 94122, or St. Vincent De Paul.
Susan A. Linoz Butacan
Susan A. Linoz Butacan, 67, of Lihue, passed away on Nov. 26, 2017, at Wilcox Medical Center.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1950, in Lihue.
She was preceded in death by parents Dalmacio and Feliza Linoz, brother Leonard Linoz, and sister Innocencia Linoz.
She is survived by sons Robert (Renee Navarro) Linoz and Douglas (Pearl) Butacan, daughters Roberta Linoz and Stephanie Rodrigues, grandchildren Kaimana Navarro Linoz, Kawika Navarro Linoz, Kekoa Smith, Ashley Green and Scott Kaohelaulii, sisters Linda Paza, Charleen (Glen) Ganeku, Theresa Kihano and Charmaine Duarte, brothers Howard (Luz) Linoz, Derrick Linoz, John (Ruth) Linoz and Brandon Linoz, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
