Lillian Arruda
Lillian Arruda of Kapaa passed away on Nov. 18, 2017, at the age of 86. She was born in Hilo, Hawaii on Aug. 29, 1931, and was retired from Wilcox Medical Center, where she worked in the business department.
She was preceded in death by husband Joseph Arruda Jr., parents Gabriel and Gloria Freitas, daughter Diana Javier, and brother Gabriel Freitas Jr.
She is survived by her children Gloria (Russell) Yee of Las Vegas, Mary Moran of Kapaa, Veronica Koga of Kapaa, Joseph (Juli) Arruda III of Lihue, Carrie (Greg) Kanelis of Washington, Melinda Sukehira of Wailua, Andrea Arruda of Wailua, Natasha Arruda of Kapaa, Nicole Arruda of Kapaa, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Catherine Parish, with visitation from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Kealia.

Joseph Kauluwehi Koko
Joseph Kauluwehi Koko, 78, of Anahola, passed away at his home in Anahola on Nov. 21, 2017.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1938 in Hana, Maui. He was a retired operator with the local operators union and a retired bus driver for County of Kauai.
He was preceded in death by wife Karen Ah Juk Chow Koko, granddaughter Amber Jody Koko, parents Stephen and Maryann Koko, siblings Isabella, Bernard, Edward, Ellen, Lorraine, Stephen Jr., Stanley and Rachel, in-laws Kut Chong and Mary Magdalene Chow.
He is survived by son Patrick (Desiree) Koko, granddaughter Karyn Koko, grandsons Jordan Koko, Kaohu (Shanelle), Brystin (Nicole) and Justin (Brittney) Vierra, three great-granddaughters Shalia, Mahina and Carsyn, brother George Koko and sisters Martha Koko and Maryann Koko, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Niumalu Canoe Club Kauai at Kalapaki Beach for services from 9 to 10 a.m. Lunch will follow.
Alexander ‘Alex’ Ian Stahl
Alexander “Alex” Ian Stahl of Lihue passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Nov. 29, 2017, at the age of 46. He was born in Minnesota on Nov. 3, 1971, and was employed by Sheraton Kauai Resort as an engineer.
He was preceded in death by parents Michael and Barbara Stahl.
He is survived by wife Kauilani Kahalekai, children Jerri-Lynn Walters, Joshua (Crystal) Walters and John Kekoanui Walters, and grandchildren Jayel Kaililaola and Lilinoe. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Jan. 7, at Salt Pond Beach Park from 3 p.m. until sunset.

Elsie Koigawachi
Elsie Tsuchiya Koigawachi, 82, of Kapaa, passed away on Nov. 18, 2017, at the St. Francis Hospice on Oahu.
Born on May 28, 1935 on Kauai, she retired from the Bank of Hawaii, Kapaa Branch.
She is survived by husband Gordon of Kapaa, daughter Rae (Lorenzo) Ordinado of Oahu, sisters Eleanor (Harry) Sasaki of Lihue and Gladys (Herbert) Yamashiro of Oahu, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Kapaa Hongwanji Temple from 2 p.m., where services will be celebrated at 3 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. Nuuanu Memorial Park &Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Joseph Kiliona Navas
Joseph Kiliona Navas of Anahola died on Nov. 20, 2017, at the age of 79. He was born in South Hilo, Hawaii, on July 6, 1938, and retired as a commercial diver.
He was preceded in death by parents Antone Akoni Navas and Elizabeth Kelekolio Navas, daughter June Egami, siblings Antone Navas, Virginia Alu, Honeygirl Tom, Verna Kihe and Dell Navas.
He is survived by wife Florence Navas, children Joann (Ernest) Puaoi, Renee Navas, Elizabeth Navas, Joseph Navas and Bernadette (Steven) Cline, 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, brother Edward Navas, sisters Jean Kelekolio, Annie Araki, Gail Navas, Sheila Hao and Wilma Kalawa, stepchildren Braddah Akau, Hannah Akau and Charlene Akau, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, at The Way of Salvation Church, 4564 Mamane St., Kapaa, with viewing from 9 a.m. and services celebrated from 10 a.m. to noon. William Glen Gray
William Glen Gray, 87, of Kalaheo, passed away on Dec. 5, 2017, at Wilcox Medical Center.
Born on April 1, 1930, in Missoula, Montana, he was a retired corrections officer and also retired from the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was preceded in death by parents Clarence Gray and Elizabeth Squires, sons William and Kenneth Gray, and brother Jack Gray.
He is survived by wife Prima Gray of Kalaheo, sons Allen Gray of Oregon and Grayson (Jordahn) Gray of Kalaheo, daughters Theresa Gray of Oregon, Barbara (Lee) McDonald of Oregon, Rosella (Larry) Bailey of Oregon and Gretel Gray of Las Vegas, sister Tish (Kelly) Surgeon of Idaho, 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, Dec. 14, at Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai, from 6 to 9 p.m., with prayer at 7 p.m., and again on Friday, Dec. 15, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eleele from 9 to 10:15 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. The family suggests casual attire.

Nelia Nepomuceno Nakazawa
Nelia Nepomuceno Nakazawa of Kilauea passed away at home on Dec. 7, 2017, at the age of 73. She was born in Peteros Rizal, Philippines, on June 8, 1944, and retired as manager of Subway in Kilauea and Hanalei.
She is survived by husband Edward Hisao Nakazawa of Kilauea, sons Garry (Susan) Dacanay of Kauai and Dante Nakazawa of California, siblings Ressurreccion (Alfonso) Arelleno of Miami, Gloria Tiamzon of the Philippines, Antonio Hagos of the Philippines, Yolanda (Frando) Estrella of the Philippines, Violet (Michael) Bucao of Kauai, Ofelia (Nanding) DeGuzman of the Philippines and Tess (Curling) Smith of Kauai. She was nana to Kaden, Lexie and Nathan, and is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23, at St. Sylvester Church in Kilauea, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Private burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Kauai Memorial Gardens &Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Merly de Vera Cruz
Merly de Vera Cruz of Kapaa passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Dec. 4, 2017, at the age of 72. She was born on May 2, 1945, in Ranao Bani Pangasinan in the Philippines. She retired as a registered nurse from Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Juan Cruz, and her second husband, Joseph Stason, and her parents Geronimo de Vera Sr. and Egliberta Orlanda.
She is survived by son John-Michael Cruz, daughter Marian Cruz, and granddaughter Kambree Takekuma.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church. Viewing will begin at 8 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. The family suggests casual attire.
