This time, instead of amazing patterns in the movement of the planets and other heavenly bodies, we examine them directly through the myriad of images taken by our intrepid space probes and incredible space telescopes!
“The Planets: Photographs From the Archives of NASA” by Nirmala Nataraj, is a newly-released book of the most recent images in astronomical photography of our planetary system.
What immediately drew our attention to this particular book was the amount of coverage devoted to the most-recently explored body in the heavens: Pluto! For many years, this once-ninth-planet was an enigma, and now thanks to countless hours of efforts by dedicated scientists and a high speed nine year voyage into deep space, we are blessed to be able to enjoy images of this far-flung world in all its fascinating and curious detail — able to be enjoyed at our leisure!
This alone makes this book a high-recommendation by us, but there are also so many other fascinating images contained within. Did you know about the eerie hexagonal formation at the northern pole of Saturn? Or how about Jupiter’s auroras which are many times bigger than our Earth? Or some of the fascinating textures on some moons which actually harbor strong indications for the discovery of life other than our own?
All these amazing mysteries and more are in this beautiful hardcover book of vibrant full-color images! Even though this may be just our local neighborhood planets, they have astonishing wonders to show us, true works of art that nature has made and for us to marvel in! Honestly, there are images that seem as if they are not even real… but they are!
