Officers seize illegal plants from Kalalau Valley
KALALAU – The Kauai Police Department participated in a two-day multi-agency operation this week that led to the removal of 15 coca plants from Kalalau Valley.
“We are in an ongoing battle against drugs on our island,” said Police Chief Darryl Perry. “That’s why this week’s operation is considered a success, and I thank all partnering agencies for their work to help prevent a dangerous and illegal drug from circulating our streets.”
Wednesday’s mission resulted in the recovery of 15 mature coca plants ranging up to 6 feet in height. The coca plant is known as the active ingredient to produce cocaine.
Law enforcement agencies also seized one pound of hash, or marijuana concentrate, from the area.
The operation was a joint effort conducted by KPD with the assistance of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, state Narcotics Enforcement Division, Hawaii National Guard, and Maui Police Department.
OMG…. give it a rest. A few coca plants is not a danger.
Sarah I agree in and of itself but it’s best to nip this in the bud, nothing good comes out of a Coca plant. Especially considering the rampant, out of control drug problems already Kauai is much, much, much worse than the rest of the US when using our small population of about 58,000. Kauai’s people can’t rely on the local police and in many cases MUST take the law into their own hands to get real justice and that’s a crime in itself. Notice all the agencies that had to coordinate to eradicate this tiny amount of plants, its laughable but not if your daughter becomes a cocaine addict and turns to prostitution to pay for her habit at 13. I was a recreational cocaine user in my younger days and feel grateful I stopped before it became an expensive and deadly habit. I know better now and you should too.
methamphetamine helps with concentration, i’m sure all the ice heads are using it to help their academic studies….
People should really be aware of the beneficial properties of the coca plant itself before assuming that it would be grown to make more toxic drugs like cocaine. Many things can be considered poisonous if misused. Education is needed. It has widespread cultural use over thousands of years and many health benefits.
