Lillian Arruda
Lillian Arruda
Lillian Arruda of Kapaa passed away on Nov. 18, 2017, at the age of 86. She was born in Hilo, Hawaii, on Aug. 29, 1931, and was retired from Wilcox Medical Center, where she worked in the business department.
She was preceded in death by husband Joseph Arruda Jr., parents Gabriel and GloriaFreitas, daughter Diana Javier and brother Gabriel Freitas Jr.
She is survived by children Gloria (Russell) Yee of Las Vegas, Mary Moran of Kapaa, Veronica Koga of Kapaa, Joseph (Juli) Arruda III of Lihue, Carrie (Greg) Kanelis of Washington, Melinda Sukehira of Wailua, Andrea Arruda of Wailua, Natasha Arruda of Kapaa and Nicole Arruda of Kapaa, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Catherine Parish, with visitation from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Kealia.

Bernardo Olores
Bernardo Olores, 89, of Kekaha, passed away at his home on Nov. 28, 2017.
Born on Nov. 18, 1928, in Honolulu, he was a retired service truck driver with Kekaha Sugar Company, and also served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by father Francisco Olores, mother Pelagia Carillio, brother Frederico Olores, and sisters Lourdes Unciano, Fortunata Amulacion and Angela Machado.
He is survived by wife Mildred Olores of Kekaha, sons Christopher (Claire) Olores of Hanapepe and Vincent (Merlie) Olores of Lihue, daughter Debra Olores of Kekaha, grandchildren Joshua Olores, Casandra Olores and Courtland Olores, great-grandchildren Jaysha Olores, Jaylynn Olores and Joshua Olores Jr., brothers Valeriano (Evelyn) Olores of Kekaha, Fernando (Kun) Carillio of Kekaha and Ernest Carillio of California, sisters Leonara Patricio of Hanapepe, Veronica Carillio of Waimea, Carol (Orlando) Abara of Omao and Rosaline (Bill) Kunipo of California, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 9, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha, from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m., where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow. Burial will be Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
The family sugests aloha attire.

Charles Tilley
Charles Tilley, 78, of Omao, passed away on Nov. 21, 2017, at his home.
He was born on July 22, 1939, in Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by parents Lee and Mae Tilley, and son David Mitchell Tilley.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda Tilley, son Robert Charles Tilley, daughters Carole Ann (Larry) Paget, Sharon Lee Zieska and Gabrielle Reed, one grandchild, and his loving and loyal dog Charlie II.
Tilley was born in Louisville, Kentucky, then moved to Detroit, and settled down in Chicago. He had a very successful career in the alarm business, and received many awards.
In 1992 Tilley and his wife Linda founded the very successful ORD Chicago Shop and aviation store in the O’Hare Hilton located in O’Hare Airport. They retired to Kauai in 2003.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Lydgate Beach Park small pavilion at 11 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire, and requests that flowers be omitted.

Martha Aiko Miyahira
Martha Aiko Miyahira, 89, the daughter of the late Matsu and Kana Miyahira of Kapaa, died in Aiea, Oahu on Nov. 2, 2017. She was born on Sept. 16, 1928, in Kapaa.
She was the fifth child in a family of 10 children. She attended Kapaa Elementary and High School. She was a student of the first Kapaa High School graduating class, and editor of Kapaa High School’s first annual (1946 yearbook).
She briefly attended the University of Hawaii right after high school, and subsequently worked at various banks and department stores in Honolulu and on Kauai.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Toshio, Kenneth, Nelson, Harry, Samuel and Paul, and sisters Dora Tengan and Elizabeth Chang.
She is survived by brother Richard of Camarillo, California.
A graveside memorial service is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at the family gravesite at the Kapaa-Kealia Cemetery on Hauaala Road. Interment will follow.
The family request no flowers or memorial contributions.
Funeral arrangement were handled by Hosoi Garden Mortuary.
Eldean ‘El’ Soon Yil Chung Scott
Eldean “El” Soon Yil Chung Scott of Lawai passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Nov. 16, 2017, at the age of 84.
She was born in Honolulu in 1933 to Euicho and Hazel Pahk Chung.
She attended Colorado State University, earning a degree in occupational therapy. She then married her college sweetheart, Phil. They moved to Maui when he started his career in sugar with HC&S. She enjoyed golfing, trap shooting, growing beautiful roses, painting and hand weaving. Together they raised their two children along with goats, ducks, geese and dogs in Haiku, Maui.
In 1992, they relocated to Kauai when her husband became manager of McBryde Sugar Company.
She was an accomplished weaver and textile artist. She had fun growing her own cotton, using plants to dye the cotton, and then spinning it into yarn to use in her woven projects. She loved to share her creations, and donated several handwoven originals to different organizations. She had a passion for knitting “Hope” lambs to be given to people in need of hope.
She also enjoyed the process of growing cacao and transforming it into chocolate. She loved spending time in her kitchen, cooking and baking for her friends and family.
She served as Kauai commissioner for the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. She was a trustee/secretary for Kauai Museum, a member of the Young Brothers Community Action Board, a sustaining member of the Wilcox Hospital Auxiliary, a Kauai Community College Fund trustee, and a founding member of the KCC Spring Gala event.
She was happiest when she was helping others. Her gift of joy shone through her beautiful smile, and her laughter and playfulness will always be remembered. She was truly adored by many.
She is loved and missed by her husband of 60 years, Phil Scott, daughter Cyndy Bear (Dave) Jordan, son Phil (Karen) Scott, grandchildren Hokulani (Eric) Fujikawa, Kaimana Jordan, Krista (Jared) Miller, and great-grandchildren Keira Sky Fujikawa and Kaylee Miller.
She passed away peacefully at home shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Florence Theresa Igne Quinones
July 11, 1933 – Nov. 25, 2017
Florence Theresa Igne Quinones entered into heaven peacefully on Nov. 25, 2017, with many family member and friends by her side. She was born to the late Dominado and Elesia Caspillo on Kauai, and was one of eight siblings.
In October 1951 she married Alfred Igne Sr. on Kauai. Early in their marriage they move to Northern California, where they settled in Fremont and raised their four children. Her professional career was as a surgical nurse, retiring from Washington Outpatient Surgery Center in Fremont.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers William, Fredrick and Raymond.
She is survived by children Clyde, Val (Dennis), Cynthia (Norman) and Alfred “Bud” Jr. (Leilani), eight grandchildren, siblings Janet (Tino), Albert (Juanita), Felicia (Joseph) and Priscilla (Bill), sisters-in-law Venus, Eunice and Carol, and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her loving husband, Frank of 16 years, his children Rayna (John), Pearl (Bill) and Nanci-Ann (John), and Frank’s nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
We love and will always remember her smile, laughter and her grace. She generously gave freely of herself and had an incredible strength of spirit. She was very much loved and admired by her family and friends and will be sorely missed. She will live in our hearts forever.
Her memorial service will be at Holy Spirit Church at 37588 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, California, on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m.
Andrew John Hart
Andrew John Hart of Kapaa passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Nov. 27, 2017, at the age of 61. He was born in California on Oct. 27, 1956, and was the co-founder of Bubba Burgers.
He was preceded in death by father Warren Hart, brother Patrick Hart, and grandmother Fabiola Gallager.
He is survived by wife Debra Hart, mother Barbara Jean Hart, siblings Michael Hart, Joan (Matthew) Howarth, Thomas (Jennifer) Hart, Danny (Tracy) Hart and Joe (Debra) Hart, stepdaughter Xochitl (Sean) Garcia, and grandchildren Finnley, Cassius and Romeo Garcia, and Max Mackenzie.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
