“This is the welcome home they never got,” said Ed Kawamura, commandant of the Kauai Veterans Council, Saturday during the 50th Commemoration Vietnam War celebration at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
More than 400 people, including veterans of other campaigns, dignitaries, Vietnam Era veterans and their significant others filled the ballroom with music from the entertainment lineup that included Malani Bilyeu, himself a Vietnam Veteran, and long-lost reunions that were punctuated with an occasional tear as comrades greeted each other.
The color guard from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Mana presented the colors which were highlighted with the Vietnam War standard, and a special video commemoration drew applause.
