LIHUE — When the Saturday performance of Thrive with Movement hit the stage at the Kukui Grove Center, no one anticipated that it would be their aloha appearance.
“We just got our ‘Notice to Vacate’ from the landlord,” said Tiffany Dick of Thrive with Movement. “We’ll operate until the end of March, and start cleaning the place.”
Thrive with Movement, starting as the Aloha Dance Studio, has been occupying the space located in Kukui Grove West for many years. It survived many challenges, including a hiccup when the Aloha Dance Studio acquired Kauai Gymnastics Academy after its leaders had to relocate back to the mainland.
Now, Dick said the building’s owners want to renovate the facility, so it’s time.
Despite pleas from many parents and community friends for Thrive to continue, Dick said no, it’s time to close this chapter of the book.
“Even Kukui Grove offered to work out some kind of arrangement to keep all these youngsters occupied,” Dick said. “But no, Kukui Grove already has a dance studio.”
Although the Thrive with Movement brand is fairly recent, Dick and the Aloha Dance Studio has an illustrious history on Kauai that includes many years of Halloween haunted houses, Kauai Hospice candlelight vigils, American Cancer Society Relays for Life, and countless Lights on Rice holiday parades.
“It’s time to take a break,” Dick said. “We’re just going to take a step back, take a breath and see what happens next.”
