LIHUE — “Kauai Love Story,” an original play by Leroy Olen, has been described as “dystopian, comedic and otherworldly.”
“Kauai Love Story” will be presented by the Aloha Common Theatre on Jan. 19 at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall for free. Doors open at noon, and the “Enhanced Staged Reading” starts at 1 p.m.
“This is our inaugural production,” said Olen. “We are a new nonprofit theatre organization on Kauai. Our focus is on supporting emerging local playwrights.”
According to the Aloha Common Theatre website at www.alohacommontheatre.org, Olen is the group’s founder and president who studied improv with David Shephard.
Olen is also the co-founder of 107.3 FM, or KRKWLP-FM in Waimea.
Aloha Common Theatre co-founder and treasurer is Derrick Adams, who is also the Rotary Club of Kauai president, a community participant, engagement speaker and financial expert.
Rebecca Carnate is the Aloha Common Theatre co-founder, vice president and secretary, and vocalist Vivian Rose is the artistic director.
