KAPAA — Waimea High School soccer took both its matches over Island School, and Kauai High School girls kept its season record clean on Wednesday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation soccer matches that were contested at the Hanapepe Stadium and the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium.
Despite the rains that have been showering the island for the past week, the Kapaa High School varsity boys eked out a 3-1 edge over the Red Raider boys in Kapaa.
Bear Miller, Braden Bermoy and Nalu Geer found the net for Kapaa who came from a 1-0 halftime lead to its eventual 3-1 victory. Kobe Claussen found the net for the Kauai High School boys.
On the girls’ field that started play under no rain for the first 20 minutes, Kauai High School girls’ Coral Turner found the net in the first eight minutes of play followed by Keira Caoagas nailing a near-40-yard boot with 32 minutes remaining in the half that gave the Red Raiders a 2-0 edge.
Kauai’s Aileah Villatora highlighted the second half scoring with a hat trick, or three goals scored. Kyla Perreira, Carlee Dusenberry and Bella Nakaahiki also found the net in the second half.
Over at the Hanapepe Stadium, Waimea took both ends of their series against the Voyagers as Kendra Knapp scored twice, and Kailea Itamura found the third net in the Menehune’s 3-0 win over the Voyager women.
On the boys’ field, Waimea’s Shayden Ranis Alameda Dela Cruz found one goal, and Makaio Hickson found the second goal in the Menehune’s 3-1 win where the third goal was an Island School own goal.
Kerry Hunter scored the Voyagers’ goal that prevented a shutout.
The next KIF soccer games take place on Saturday when Kauai faces Waimea at the Hanapepe Stadium, and Kapaa takes on Island School at the Voyagers’ field in Puhi. The Junior Varsity boys start with a 10 a.m. kickoff in Hanapepe followed by the varsity girls playing at 11:45 a.m. and the varsity boys kick off at 1:45 p.m.
Over at Island School, the varsity girls face off at 2 p.m. followed by the boys starting at 4 p.m.
