Jerrie J. Louis Sr.
A tribute from his children
We wish to extend a special mahalo to friends and ohana for all of their prayers and comfort you offered up to us and our father. We loved him very much and wanted to share some memories we have with you.
He and our mother, Marilyn, provided us with a strong upbringing full of memories and all of us benefited in life because of our experiences. Thanks to our mother, she helped inspire Jerrie to begin his ranching and settle his family in Hanapepe Valley beginning in 1957. As he and mom were raising us and he was working at McBryde, he also was heavily involved with horseback and rodeo. He claimed the title of All Around Cowboy in the 70’s.
From there, he secured multiple pasture leases that grew to over 80 head of cattle at the peak. Then, in 2007, he was inducted into the Paniolo Hall of Fame. All during that time, many friends supported his ranching. He gained much respect and friendship with the likes of Eddie, Patrick, Francis, Wilfred, and Jimmy just to name a few of the too many to mention. As kids, we remember working the ranch on weekends. Planting grass, fixing fence or rounding up cattle. There was always something to do before we could go out and play.
His widely familiar Ranch 44 brand came about with his great-grandfather in Portugal. It was then passed down to his grandfather and dad, Then, finally to Jerrie. The actual brand now hangs above Jerrlyn’s fireplace in Texas.
We will miss him dearly. Thank you, Dad, for helping shape us into who we are today.
With love and fond memories,
Monica, Jerrlyn, Jerrie Jr., and our beloved sister Linda.
