LIHUE — A sharp increase in the surf issued a High Surf Warning for Niihau and Kauai’s Northern and Western-facing shorelines on Thursday, Nov. 28.
National Weather Service (NWS) officials have forecasted high surf heights of 25 to 35 feet along north-and west-facing shores on Kauai and Niihau.
The strong breaking waves and powerful currents prompted the NWS to issue a High Surf Warning which will be in effect until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, however, the high surf warning can be extended, dropped, and or modified as conditions develop.
NWS advises beachgoers that waves breaking in channel entrances may make navigating the channels dangerous. The public is urged to use caution when entering these areas during the active High Surf Warning as conditions can cause serious injury or death.
