Greg Von Hausch (he’s the latest Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center manager) had the place hopping on Thursday when Greg Shepherd arrived to talk about the Kauai Chamber Music Kauai “A Classical Christmas.”
Nope. That concert is not until Dec. 20-21 at the St. Michael and All Angels Church.
In the meantime, Greg Shepherd had to deal with a roomful of ballerinas from the Kauai Ballet Academy (one parent said they are ballerinas from all around Kauai) who were getting ready for the Nutcracker Suite … keep your eyes peeled for the notice.
And, to add to the buzz of things happening on Thursday afternoon, Scarlett Lewis, mother of Jesse Lewis )who was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School after saving nine of his classmates) and founder of Choose Love Movement, had a lot of Kauai educators and counselors joining her to host a film with Project Shaka.
More information on the Choose Love movement can be found at chooselovemovement.org. The website contains information on no-cost programs for Pre-K through Grade 12, and “aligned programming for parents, community leaders and workplaces.”
All this, and there’s still the concerts coming up, including the Kauai Community Symphony Orchestra 2024 Winter Concert on Dec. 7, starting at 7 p.m. at the KCC Performing Arts Center.
Before that, Sarah Tochiki will have the KCC Jazz Ensemble at the Kukui Grove Center on Dec. 1 to “Kick-off the Holiday Season.” Show time is at noon.
And no! Sarah Rogers and the Kapaa Interfaith Association said after more than 20 years, there will be no Thanksgiving luncheon this year at the All Saints Gym, or the home deliveries from Lihue to Anahola. Mark Oyama and the Contemporary Flavors Catering ohana who have been doing the annual Thanksgiving meal for the past 20-plus years, is retiring. (If you hurry, you can still order individual plates from Mark’s Place … but hurry before it sells out.)
