Kudos to Kumu Kamakana Bray, the haumana of the Kauai Maoli Woodcarving Academy, and the Kukui Grove Center on the dedication of “Lonoiki ‘Eke Makahiki,” the in-place wood carving of Lono from a coconut tree that was the victim of winter winds…Tommy Rita missed out since he was delayed from his usual Friday morning coffee and talk story with Bill Spitz and the morning crew.

Tommy had to wait until the Division I playoff football game (he still had his Blue-for-Waimea on) to talk about the upcoming Christmas party with the Teachers Federal Credit Union.
Food and parties take center stage as kudos to Samira Siale and the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association ‘ohana for partnering with the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai in offering one of the first food distributions (what, Michelle Panoke? The first people came to the Kauai Philippine Cultural Center from 6 a.m.?).
Mahalo to Kauai Police Department Capt. Rod Green, Barbara Green, and The Salvation Army commanders and volunteers from the Lihue and Hanapepe Corps for launching this year’s Toys for Tots campaign that partners with The Salvation Army to provide toys through the Army’s holiday distributions, and the Angel Tree programs…and mahalo to the Walmart Lihue crew for volunteering to ring bells at the Red Kettles…don’t forget the Salvation Army’s annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheons coming up the Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving!
Kudos to the East Kauai Lions Club and its partnering agencies like Hoola Lahui Hawaii, Project Vision, the Department of Health (whoa! got to see Duquesa Padamada visiting from Texas at last week’s Pau Hana Market), and the Kauai Community College Nursing program on the day-long “Take Charge of Your Health” event where Lion Steven Fujii was enjoying that “healthy” chili and Lion Kelvin Moniz had to miss the Division I football playoff game.
