Nora Akie Masuda
Nora Akie Masuda passed away on Sept. 27, 2024, at Straub Medical Center at the age of 82. She was born on Kauai on Oct. 19, 1941. She retired as a secretary from the County of Kauai, Civil Defense.
She was preceded in death by parents Hatsuki and Shizue Nakata and brother-in-law Dennis Vasconcelles.
She is survived by daughter Leanne (Patrick) Rosa, son Kyle Masuda, sisters Katherine (Dennis) Vasconcelles, Gloria (Richard) Kusumoto, Karen (Gary) Miyahara, Joy Nakata-Muranaka, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at The Church at Koloa. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. with services to follow at 10 a.m.
Roberta Carol Agena
Roberta Carol Agena, of Waimea, passed away on Nov. 2, 2024, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. She was born on Jan. 26, 1945, in Waimea. She was an elementary school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Dorothy Dela Cruz, brothers Donald Dela Cruz, Gerald Dela Cruz and sister Ellen Dela Cruz.
She is survived by her husband Lowell Agena, sons Eric (Cathy Shibuya) Agena, daughters Stacie Aguinaldo, May Lee (Harvey) Llantero, three grandchildren, brothers Stanley Dela Cruz of Eleele, Ernest (April) Dela Cruz of Kekaha, sisters-in-law Aurelia Dela Cruz, Vicki Dela Cruz, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
James ‘Jim’ Flipert
James “Jim” Flipert, of Koloa, passed away on Oct. 27, 2024, in Princeville at the age of 79. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 21, 1944. He was self-employed and served in the U.S. Army.
Preceded in death by parents Charles Muehlbach and Marion Ross and brother Robert Muehlbach.
He is survived by his wife Janet Flipert, daughters Monica (Steve) Farrell, Alisha (Bryan) Loar, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
