ANINI BEACH — A search for a missing swimmer continued on Monday, one day after a 59-year-old visitor from Arizona became detached from a group of snorkelers and did not return to shore.
ANINI BEACH — A search for a missing swimmer continued on Monday, one day after a 59-year-old visitor from Arizona became detached from a group of snorkelers and did not return to shore.
The Kauai Fire Department said it initiated the search at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday with firefighters from Hanalei, as well as Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 and Ocean Safety Bureau personnel. The male swimmer, whose name has not been released, was last seen at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Sunday near the back channel of Anini Beach.
“Additional personnel from the Kauai Fire Department and Kauai Police Department arrived on scene and launched drones to assist with the search on Sunday, and the U.S. Coast Guard also assisted by boat and helicopter,” the fire department said in an update on the incident.
“The search continued Sunday until sunset, and resumed at daylight on Monday with all agencies involved. Volunteers with Kauai Search and Rescue also joined in the effort. So far, there has been no sign of the man.”
