HONOLULU — The first shots for the 2024 Hawaii Army National Guard Hawaii High School Athletic Association air riflery championships will go off on Tuesday morning at the Neal Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu.
The Kauai Interscholastic Federation will be represented by the Kauai High School boys and girls teams, which swept the Central Pacific Bank KIF final meet at the Kauai High School range on Oct. 19.
Joining the four-shooter teams, Waimea High School will be sending its two top shooters — Rochelle Uri, and Ferdy Padamada — who earned eligibility at the Oct. 19 matches.
Uri finished the Oct. 19 matches with scores of 184 in prone position shooting, 154 in standing position and 175 in kneeling position for a total of 513 points, the second highest points for the final match.
She was bested by Kauai High School’s Caylee Garma, who posted a high point 527 points that counted toward the Red Raider girls team point total of 2,012. The Kauai High School girls team, including team members Garma, Sharba Holi, Lea Ramos and Taylee Yoshimoto was the sole squad to finish with more than 2,000 points.
Waimea High School girls marked 1,953 points, followed by Kapaa High School girls at 1810 and Island School marking 1586 points.
Waimea High School boys qualifier to the state meet, Padamada, edged out fellow Menehune Rhomsen Fermin by just three points to make the state cut with his 509 points.
Padamada’s score was the fifth highest posted on the final day shooting. He was bested by the Kauai High School boys team, which finished by taking the CPB KIF title with a point total of 2,o94 points.
The team members all finished with scores exceeding 500 points, including Jacob Andres, who posted the day’s second high point at 528. Andrew Sadamitsu posted the day’s high point at 534 points. Brayden Bartholomew finished with 519 points, just six points better than Keegan Ushio, who finished with 513 points.
Overall, Waimea High School boys finished in second place with 1,983 points, followed by the Kapaa boys who posted a score of 1,848, and Island School with 1,553 points led by Gabriel Kelley, who was the sole male Voyager to break 400 points.
