Mahalo Stephanie Iona for getting Aloun Farms to donate (and deliver) some 250 pumpkins to the county’s employee council for their annual celebration! Keith Perry of the mayor’s office and Therilynn Martin Haumea were busy helping Aloun Farms driver Ronald Ah Nee move the tubs of pumpkins so it would be out of the way of the domestic violence presentation by Abigail Naaykens of the YWCA of Kauai (tickets for the Nov. 16 Na Wahine Alakai o Kauai awards at the Grand Hyatt Kauai are still available by contacting the YWCA) and their community partners.

For Halloween out of the norm, The Cognitions Learning Center at Kauai Community College opened Exploring Fear and Phobias on Thursday in the former Macy’s Mens space. They will be available for experiencing through Sunday afternoon … Friday hours are 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. … definitely a unique learning experience, and don’t forget to read the disclaimer at the entrance.
On the heels of the Fear and Phobias, Kauai Society of Artists member Keith Orell hosts Art in the Dark, a unique glow-in-the-dark exhibition and sale at the Kauai Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center. The opening reception is on Monday from 5 p.m. (it’s a glow-in-the-dark event) and the experience continues through Halloween.
Another unique Halloween experience comes up on Oct. 31 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. when Healing Horses Kauai hosts a Halloween photo shoot at their Wailua facility on the Kapaa bypass road. Healing Horses Kauai also has a holiday photo shoot for Dec. 15 where you provide the camera, and they’ll provide the painted horses. The donations go to benefit the HHK program.
