LIHUE — Law enforcement authorities continue to request the public’s assistance in locating Bennetta Kaiwi, of Anahola, who has been missing for a few days.
Kaiwi, 47, was reported missing on Monday, Oct. 7, after her vehicle was found unattended near Lumahai Beach. Kaiwi is being described as being 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 220 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She is of Hawaiian descent.
The Kauai Police Department (KPD) reported that at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday, rescue personnel were dispatched to an area near Lumahai Beach following calls of a single-vehicle crash. First responders arrived and discovered an unattended vehicle, which was registered to Kaiwi, located about 100 feet down the cliffside near the water’s edge.
First responders believe there might be a possibility that Kaiwi may have entered the water.
The search has entered its third day and is being assisted by the Kauai Fire Department (KFD) along with the U.S. Coast Guard (USGS). Kuhio Highway was closed for about an hour on Tuesday, Oct. 8, as crews worked to recover the vehicle.
