The Warriors marked five scores in the first half — three end zone touches coming in the first quarter — before Nainoa Simmons notched a 4-yarder in the third quarter, and No. 2 QB Keau Na-O, getting a lot of field time, closed the score books in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard plunge through traffic.
Warrior Nash Burkart, recipient of a Daligdig pass on a score that was called back on penalty, finished the day with three interceptions of Kyka Linoz aerials, and pulled off a rugby punt late in the game after earlier converting on a fourth down fake punt.
Kapaa, the Garden Island representative to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I, rolled off the bus for an early start against Waimea, one of two Division II teams in the KIF, by scoring on its first possession when Daligdig found the end zone at the end of a 9-yard run after the Warriors peeled off more than two minutes off the game clock.
Kapaa kicker Micah Rapozo, finishing the day with seven successful point after touchdown (PAT) kicks, did the PAT honors following the game-opening score.
With the win, Kapaa is undefeated in the KIF with three wins. The Warriors will host Kauai High School, currently 2-1 on the KIF season, on Saturday at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
The JV contest kicks off at noon, followed by the varsity contest starting 30 minutes after the completion of the JV game.
