What?
It’s the real thing! Kudos to Kauai Fire Department’s Kilipaki Vaughn and the crew at Station 3 (that’s Lihue) for being able to respond to the dispatch call (Kilipaki was networking with the Lihue Airport Crash Fire when the call came in) without ruffling any feathers from the huge crowd that collected for the Fire Prevention Week launch at the Kauai Philippine Cultural Center (Sonia Topenio was worried about the blocked entrance to the premium storage).
The crew was considerate to keep their sirens silent (there was a Swim Kauai Aquatics swim meet going on at the YMCA pool, too) until they got to the intersection of Nuhou and Kaumualii, and the event crowd did not even know the response was the real thing.
Great job, Kaeo Kinoshita of the KFD Prevention Bureau, and Fire Chief Michael Gibson who got a fancy ginger lei from an appreciative attendee on a well-done event (check out Fire Prevention Week events from other parts of the country on the county’s Facebook page).
The weather cooperated to where keiki didn’t mind that it wasn’t Koloa Plantation Days to try their hand at the fire hose, and great job to the KFD Recruit Class on being everywhere from helping people learn CPR to trying to stay out of the spray from those keiki water hoses.
And who was that volunteer at the Agency on Elderly Affairs (Falls Prevention share a lot of tips that parallel Fire Prevention!), who had his Kapaa High School football shirt on so he could be ready for the Kauai Interscholastic Federation football game taking place at the Hanapepe Stadium?
