LIHUE — A man has been arrested in connection with unauthorized charges made with a stolen credit card in July.
The Kauai Police Department (KPD) thanked the community for successfully providing law enforcement with information that led to the arrest of Elijah Stephens, 44, of Lihue.
“This case highlights the power of community involvement in keeping our island safe,” said KPD Assistant Chief Kalani Ke.
KPD said the CrimeStoppers phone line received numerous tips, which assisted officers in identifying the suspect.
Stephens was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 18, without incident after being identified as the suspect seen on camera making unauthorized charges on a stolen credit card at Walmart in Lihue on Wednesday, July 24.
Stephens is charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and criminal contempt in court. He is being held on $5,000 bond.
“Thanks to the anonymous tips we received through Crime Stoppers, the public played a crucial part in helping us identify and apprehend this suspect,” Ke said.
