PRINCEVILLE — Nonprofits on the North Shore of Kauai are taking center stage this week, launching initiatives that express how community-driven projects can create lasting change across the island.
North Shore Give (NSG) has unveiled the full list for its eight-day event from Sept. 20-28, featuring a series of activities designed to engage and bring the community together, while bringing awareness and highlighting the fundamental roles nonprofits play in the community.
“The health of a community is based on the strength of its local nonprofits and the North Shore is blessed with so many active, caring, and participating nonprofits,” said Stefan Swanepoel, event organizer and president of North Shore Give. “We welcome everyone in the community to get involved, have fun, and volunteer.

schedule of events:
• Friday, Sept. 20— Free movie-in-the-park at Prince Albert Park, Princeville, hosted by Princeville at Hanalei Community Association and Princeville 2 Community Association. The movie begins at sundown.
• Saturday, Sept. 21— North Shore Lions Club Project, Kauai Christian Academy at 9 a.m. Volunteers are welcome to join the Kauai North Shore Lions Club to help build, repair, and paint the basketball court benches.
• Saturday, Sept. 21— The Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay, Kuhio Highway at 8 a.m. The Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay has adopted a stretch of highway in Princeville and will be joined by the community for a highway cleanup.
• Sunday, Sept. 22 — Picnic in the park and kickball tournament, Waioli Town Park, at noon. The event will include food and music, as well as a lesson with the Hanalei Initiative.
• Wednesday, Sept. 25 — Reef Guardians Field Trip, Anini Beach, at 10 a.m. A hands-on experience for children on the importance of marine conservation and the importance of protecting Hawaii’s reefs.
• Thursday, Sept. 26 — Aina Alliance Junk Cars and Trash Removal, Anahola at 8:30 a.m. Students will get a fast course on junk car removal. Twenty-plus junked cars will be removed from a 10-acre area to enhance safety in the neighborhood.
• Friday, Sept. 27 — Ohana FitFest pre-event, Makai Grill at Princeville Makai Gold Club, at 3 p.m. Pre-event meet-up for check-in and registration, including Ohana FitFest hat pick up and bibs.
• Saturday, Sept. 28— Ohana FitFest 5K run/walk, Prince Albert Park, at 6:30 a.m. The 11th annual Ohana FitFest at Princeville with family-friendly obstacles.
These events are the perfect opportunity for individuals and families, who are interested in volunteering, to come together and engage with other volunteers, who share similar values and goals.
