KOLOA — The second Joe Grace Memorial Coed Slow Pitch Tournament will be held this weekend — Sept. 13 through Sept. 15 — at Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa.
“This event is not only a celebration of Uncle Joe Grace’s legacy, but also a crucial fundraiser to support two deserving scholarship recipients in the community,” said Deanalynn Tafiti, one of Joe Grace’s grandchildren.
“Uncle Joe was a beloved member of our community who touched the lives of many through his dedication, sportsmanship and unwavering support for youth programs. In his honor, all proceeds from the tournament will be dedicated to providing scholarships to exceptional students, helping them pursue their academic goals and dreams.”
The Joe Grace ohana and the tournament organizing committee are asking for support in the form of monetary donations, or items for the silent auction that will be taking place during the tournament play.
Monetary contributions can be either in cash or through checks made payable to “Paulette Grace,” Uncle Joe’s widow. The checks can be mailed to 2424 Kipuka St., Koloa, HI 96756.
Silent auction contributions can be any item or items, or services that can be auctioned off during the three-day tournament. Some suggested items include gift baskets, gift cards, sports memorabilia, event tickets and unique experiences.
Silent auction donations can be done by contacting Shana Tafiti at stafiti14@gmail.com or call 808-482-0102.
“This special event is in memory of our grandfather, Joe Grace, and will be filled with fun, food, and activities for the whole family,” Deannalynn said.
“Enjoy delicious meals from KJ’s Lunch Wagon, home of Joe Grace’s Famous Roast Park, along with exciting raffle prizes, including hotel stays and gift cards to local businesses. It’s a great chance to spend the day at the park, make memories and celebrate the legacy of Joe Grace.”
