PRINCEVILLE — Early registration to the ‘Ohana Fit Fest earn discounted fees and eligibility for an opportunity to earn $200 in dining at the Kalypso Restaurant in Hanalei, said Ken Rosenthal, a North Shore Give board member and the co-creator of the ‘Ohana FitFest.
“Runners and walkers register individually, and can link their registration to a team,” said Maylette Garces, the executive director of North Shore Give. “Ask your favorite school, nonprofit, business or any other organization if they’ll have a team at ‘Ohana FitFest. Prizes will be given to the Fastest Team, Largest Team and team with the most spirit.”
Registration can be done online at the website www.northshoregive.org/events/ohana-fitfest/.
Hosted by the community foundation North Shore Give, the ‘Ohana FitFest is an annual family-friendly obstacle fun run or walk that will celebrate its 11th anniversary when the fun starts on Sept. 28.
“‘Ohana FitFest is fun and fitness coming together for a wonderful community event,” Rosenthal said. “Along the route, runners climb, crawl and test their coordination on obstacles, such as the pallet climb, ‘spider web’ and slip-n-slide. Walkers are also welcome and need not tackle the obstacles.”
Grants from the ‘Ohana FitFest proceeds will be donated to North Shore elementary schools for their respective health and fitness programs. Last year, about $15,000 were presented to schools.
Last year, the 10th ‘Ohana Fitfest anniversary, saw the Kilauea Phys Ed take the Fastest Team honor. Kilauea School had the Largest Team and the Surfrider Foundation was the team with most spirit.
The ‘Ohana FitFest route starts and finishes at Prince Albert Park in Princeville and includes the Princeville path and ocean-view golf holes of the Princeville Makai Golf Course.
Packet and Bib pickup takes place on Sept. 27 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Makai Grill at the Princeville Makai Golf Club. There will an opportunity to enter a drawing for $100 dining at Ama in Hanalei.
