Kudos to Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Chair Mario Trinidad on pulling together the 64th annual Miss Kaua‘i Scholarship Pageant where it literally took a village to make the three contestants — Aaliyah Nero, Jaslen Valdez and Aleah Yano — enter the stage as true winners.

Kudos to Program Coordinator Liz Kawamura (she’s a former Miss Kaua‘i Filipina) on an intense nearly three-hour evening of exciting queen competition, and the great introduction of the candidates with Steven Domingo and the Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Scholarship Pageant Filipino Folklore Dancers with the dance performances that was on par with the recent Pan Pacific Festival and a perfect representation of this year’s theme of “Unity With Aloha.”
The theme carried over to the Kaua‘i Filipino Women’s Club that announced its 58th annual Terno Ball, which will take place on Sept. 23 at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort with the theme of “Kapwa: Embracing Our Shared Identity.”
Terno judges Rhoda Libre can identify with this because the cultural practitioner was judging the Filipino elegant wear with Bernard Carvalho Jr., and not able to participate with the summer solstice events taking place at Pa‘ula‘ula State Historic Site.
It’s alright because the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau, and in cooperation with the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa present Ho‘ohanohano Mo‘omeheu, or Honoring Our Hawaiian Culture, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i where local entertainment, cultural workshops and local shopping from crafters and vendors, some of which are Kaua‘i Made vendors.
