LIHU‘E — A structure fire at the former Lihue Plantation Company Sugar Mill caused an estimated $1,500 in damage on Friday, June 21.
Kauai Fire Department (KFD) personnel were dispatched after a 911 emergency call of a structure fire at the former sugar mill near Kaumuali‘i Highway in Lihu‘e shortly after 12:25 p.m. on Friday.
“According to a preliminary report, upon arrival at approximately 12:30 p.m., firefighters discovered a one-story, unpermitted structure fully engulfed in flames,” the KFD said. “The fire was controlled and extinguished shortly after arrival.”
Once the fire was controlled KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and started their investigation.
Fire crews cleared the scene at around 1:20 p.m.. No injuries were reported.
