Congratulations, and Mahalo to Dr. Janet Berreman, Lauren Guest, (Col.) Toni Torres, Capt. Ian McEwen and all (more than 230!) military professionals (even U.S. Coast Guard Kaua‘i Officer in Charge Michael McHugh had his crew out there along with the Kaua‘i Community College Nursing Department’s 14 students) on concluding the Department of Defense Innovative Readiness Training mission (we call it Tropic Care Kaua‘i) where the three different sites had more than 5,500 treatments (and nearly 30,000 hours of DOD IRT training) administered for no-cost health care!

Mahalo to Priscilla Chan, Mark Zuckerberg, Jen Chahanovich and Hawai‘i Pacific Health, Wilcox Health, Friends of Dennis Esaki in memoriam, and the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort for being leading sponsors for the Mahalo Lu‘au on Wednesday where Darryl Low (no, he’s going to the Summer Solstice event in Waimea, Saturday night) and Leilani Rivera Low (she’s doing a special bon presentation at the Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple on Saturday night) provided the entertainment (the poi ball demonstrations and trials were a hoot!).
Kudos to Bart Thomas (he’s got a Wounded Warrior family coming on July 3!), Barbara Gusman, Robert Jones (boy, that Polynesian Adventures bus had a lot of guests!) and Paul Iloreta for working so hard (Robert had to go back for a second load of lei) in greeting all those guests between the 230-plus Tropic Care people.
OK, time to get some education on honeybees with Mark Jeffers and The Storybook Theater at the Kaua‘i Coffee Visitor Center on Saturday from 10 a.m. before the Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Scholarship Pageant at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall at 7 p.m.
