The Lihu‘e Verizon crew, including Carter Pitterle, retail store manager Ella Bactad, Kelly Cobb and Andrew MacFarlane paid a visit to Kaua‘i Veterans Museum, where the Rocks for Warriors have been transformed into a rock garden. The Lihu‘e Verizon store employees volunteered their time to honor and remember veterans with the donated hours go to the Hope for Warriors Program. The Verizon employees painted more than 70 rocks with invitations for veterans and service members, both active duty, and the National Guard, to take one of these rocks home. Additionally, the Verizon employees, led by Bactad, created more than 300 ti leaf lei that were placed on veterans’ grave sites for Memorial Day at Kaua‘i Veterans Center.

The recipients from nine nonprofit groups received their checks on Saturday, June 8, 2024, during the start of the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market. The awards represented some of the proceeds from the 5th annual Kaua‘i Brewers Festival, which was presented by Kaua‘i Island Brewing Company and Salty Wahine Gourmet Hawaiian Salts at the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center. Awards were presented to the American Cancer Society, Zonta Club of Kaua‘i, Hula Halau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leina‘ala, Hawai‘i Children’s Theatre, Hawaiian Craft Brewers Guild-KIBC, Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i, Leadership Kaua‘i, Alzheimer’s Association and Halau Ka Pa Hula o Hinano.
