LIHU‘E — A Ha‘ena man was arrested in connection with an alleged assault on Lumaha‘i Bridge last week that left the victim in critical condition.
Chance Olanolan, 27, was taken into custody on Friday, June 7, the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) said. He was arrested for assault in the first degree.
The charge stems from an incident on Thursday, June 6, at about 11:15 a.m. in which a man was assaulted on the bridge. The victim was found unresponsive.
“The victim’s injuries were consistent with those typically sustained in an assault,” the KPD said last eek. “The victim was then transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital (in Lihu‘e) in critical condition.”
The victim was later medevacked to Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, where he remains in critical condition, the KPD said.
Olanolan was released from custody after posting $25,000 bail on Sunday, June 9.
Authorities are asking for information from drivers who were traveling on Kuhio Highway, in the vicinity of the bridge, on Thursday, June 6, between 10 a.m. and noon.
