LIHU‘E — “Ephemeral” was the word of the day for the Agora Club on Monday — the first Monday of the month — at the Saint Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church conference room located across the parking lot of the sanctuary.
“We will have an open house on June 17,” said Donna Lynn Loo, an Agora Club member. “The open house is geared toward explaining the Agora educational system, and the club.”
The open house starts at noon and coincides with the group’s twice-monthly meetings that end at 1 p.m.
“Of course, we welcome people to visit us at any of the club’s meetings on the first and third Mondays of the month,” said Mark Walsh, the Agora Club vice president of membership. “They can come to see us in action, and even participate. The beauty of groups like this is the networking. Look at how many of these members are part of the community.”
The Kaua‘i Agora — Club 218 is currently 10 strong, including a pair of recruits.
“The best part is it is free,” Loo said. “We think that it is a big deal because with free membership, more of the community can join.”
Walsh added that membership fees are often the obstacles to the skills being taught by communication skill groups.
“If membership is free, there are no obstacles to learning,” Walsh said.
Kaua‘i Agora is a public speaking platform using the very simple but effective “Agora” evidence-based educational system.
Kaua‘i Agora provides a supportive and friendly environment where members can learn and practice the basic skills of communication, public speaking, leadership, and critical thinking.
Club members are part of a community that help each other with projects, share experiences and provides valuable feedback on the ways to improve. All club members, new and seasoned, work toward a common goal, the club’s mission is to empower you to become a brilliant communicator and confident leader who will actively build a better world.
“And, you don’t need to wait for the open house,” Walsh said. “Anyone is welcome to visit us at any of our meetings. You don’t need to wait for an open house.”
An informational flier states the best way to find out more is to talk with club members and attend a meeting.
