Leticia Pilipina Serapio
Leticia Pilipina Serapio, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on March 19, 2024, in Honolulu at the age of 63. She was born on Oct. 4, 1960, in Langiden, Abra, Philippines. She was a housekeeper at the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club in Po‘ipu.
She was preceded in death by parents Pablo and Nena A. Pilipina and brother Carlito Pilipina.
She is survived by husband Hory C. Serapio, sons Norman (Maribelle) Serapio of Vancouver, Canada, Jay Mark (Charlyn) Serapio of ‘Ele‘ele, daughter Helen Grace (Rodolfo) Serapio of the Philippines, grandchildren Phoebe Ancheta, Noem Yosh Serapio, Anela Serapio, Natalie Serapio, sisters Natalia (Jovito) Bonifacio of the Philippines, Nora (Manny) Flores of the Philippines, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on May 25, 2024, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Michael Miyuki Cardinez
Michael Miyuki Cardinez, known for his ready smile and servant heart, peacefully left for Paradise on Feb. 28, 2024. He was an active member in the Kaua‘i Church of Christ, Lihu‘e. Michael was born in Waimea, Kaua‘i, on Aug. 13, 1949. He served in the United States Navy for four years before becoming a Radar Technician at Makaha Ridge, Koke‘e from where he retired.
Michael was preceded in passing by his father Steven Cardinez, mother Evelyn (Oyakawa) Estrada, brother Ronald Cardinez, sister Lydia Castillo, brother-in-law David Banquel and the mother of his children, Monda Haney.
He is survived by his brothers Clarence (Carmen) Cardinez of California, Manolo (Ces) Delos Reyes of Kaumakani, James (Angela) Delos Reyes of Kaumakani, Steven (Karen) Cardinez of Florida, Alex (Shari) Cardinez of California, sisters Frances Bunao of Lihu‘e, Carol (Burt) Gonsalves of California, Alicia Estrada of Hanama‘ulu, Celia Marie Mancia of Oregon, Nelda Banquel of Hanapepe and his stepmother Evelyn “Nana” Cardinez of Kaumakani (who sadly passed on March 14, 2024).
Michael also leaves behind his children Kalei (Alden) Cardinez of Hanama‘ulu, Kananiokala (Harvey) Makekau of Hanama‘ulu, Mikey (Carolan) Cardinez of Kapa‘a and TC (Andrea) Cardinez of Wailua. He will remain a constant guide to his beloved grandchildren Cobie Cardinez, Megan Rego, Keona Nakamura, Kaiona Nakamura, Ricky Rego, Nainoa Cardinez, Auree Cardinez, Daniel Makekau and Sherilyn Makekau as well as his most precious great grandchildren Taiden Cardinez, Tia Cardinez, Kawehi Rego and Kamailelauli‘i Yap and his grand pups Hale, Nani, Pepe, Mali‘e, Li‘i, Hema and Lilo. Michael is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall, starting at 11:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Please come, talk story and enjoy heavy pupu and desserts with his ‘Ohana.

Stanley ‘Hunk’ Viquelia
Stanley “Hunk” Viquelia, 71, of Hanapepe, passed away on April 1, 2024. He was born on Feb. 28, 1953, in Lihu‘e. He was a retired propane installer for Hawai‘i Gas.
He was preceded in death by parents Delfin and Mary Viquelia, sisters Veronica Shimatsu, Donna Joiner, Debra Zanders, brothers Rudy Viquelia, Anthony Viquelia and grandsons.
He is survived by wife Alicia Viquelia of Hanapepe, sons Levi (Gezmynn) Viquelia, Kelly (Kwai Yen) Viquelia of Hanapepe, daughter Rabekkah (Bryan) Bernades of Lihu‘e, sisters Anita Salvador of Chino Hills, California, Geraldine (Eliseo) Bolosan of Hanama‘ulu, brothers Jerry (Nadine) Viquelia of Ewa Beach, Donald Viquelia of Koloa, eight grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Port Allen small boat harbor – fishing club house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Private scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.

Leonida Defuntorum Leones
Leonida Defuntorum Leones, 80, of Lihu‘e, passed away on April 19, 2024. She was born Aug. 24, 1943, in Manguzmana, Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines, and worked at Host Marriott Restaurant for 23 years.
Preceded in death by her parents Eduardo and Esmerenciana Defuntorum, siblings Romualdo Defuntorum, Mateo Defuntorum, Eusequio Defuntorum, Felomino Defuntorum, Teresita D. Francisco and Hilaria D. Juliano.
She is survived by step children, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Immaculate Conception church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Ervin ‘Erv’ Alonzo Contrades Jr.
Ervin “Erv’ Alonzo Contrades Jr., of Lihu‘e, passed away on April 9, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born in Lihu‘e on Jan. 19, 1952, and worked as the office manager for Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.
He was preceded in passing by his parents Ervin Sr. and Mercedes Contrades.
Erv is survived by his sisters Lavana (Debbie Almeida) Contrades, Sandi (Jerry) Costa, brothers Clayton Contrades, Kalei (Wiley) Contrades, hanai brother Charles Strunk, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A service will be held at Lihue Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Visitation with the family beginning at 9:30 a.m. and services starting at 10:30 a.m.

Annabel Bunao Ragasa
Annabel Bunao Ragasa, of Kapa‘a, passed away on April 4, 2024, in Washington State at the age of 59. She was born on Aug. 21, 1964, in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines. Annabel was a Housekeeping Manager at Hanalei Bay Resort, Princeville for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her father Fausto Bunao Jr., brothers Marcelino Bunao and Gregorio Bunao.
Annabel is survived by her mother Leonora Bunao, husband Eldegarde “Eldy” Ragasa, son Keith (Shawna) Ragasa, grandson Kiawe of Washington State, brother Leopoldo (Nellie) Bunao of Kapa‘a, sisters-in-law Cresencia Bunao of Kapa‘a, Digna Bunao of the Philippines, numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended families.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation will start at 8 a.m. with Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. The family would like to request casual attire. Flowers are welcome.

Mason Rikio Fujimoto, of Hanapepe, passed away on April 30, 2024, in Waimea at the age of 43. He was born on Feb. 18, 1981, in Waimea. He was a cook and pre-school teacher.
He was preceded in death by his twin-brother Anson Fujimoto, grandparents Basilio Blanza and Esperanza Cabacungan Funtanilla, Robert G. and Hatsumi Akiyama Fujimoto.
He is survived by his son Gavin Fujimoto-Foster of Hanapepe, grandchild Xhysten Fujimoto, parents Bobby and Toni Fujimoto of Hanapepe, brother Craig Fujimoto of Hanapepe, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 4 to 5 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 5 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Larry Katsumi Iida
Larry Katsumi Iida of Kapa‘a, passed away on May 8, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born in Lihu‘e, on July 11, 1942, and worked as a self-employed mason.
He is preceded in passing by his father Katsuaki Iida, mother and stepfather Misao and Crespin Ringor and his brother Gary Iida.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Arlene Iida, children Sheryl (Seagram) Flores, Russell (Leah) Iida, Lori (Stuart) Wakuta, siblings Carol Toyofuku, Karen Iida, Leonard (Janice) Ringor, Kathleen (Seeper) Soogrim, grandchildren Melissa Iida, June, Raymond, and Stacie Serquina, Alicia Flores, Keio Wakuta, great-grandchildren Lisa and Brandon Iida, Jordan-Ray, Jayden, Jaisaiah Serquina-Reis, Ryder Masukawa, numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Emily Ortiz Artaho of Koloa, Kaua‘i, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 21, 2024, at the age of 91. Emily was born in Koloa, she was a homemaker.
Emily was preceded in death by parents Patricio and Carmela Ortiz, husband Anastacio Ralph Artaho, daughters Rhonda and Janell Artaho.
She is survived by daughters Donna Higa, Enola Gay Artaho, Priscilla (Ralph) Yawata, Patrice (Randy) Silva, Ingrid (Latham) Keaweamahi, son Ralph (Sandi) Artaho II, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends may join the family at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Services follow at 11 a.m. Services conclude with burial at 1 p.m. at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe.

Pilar Jose Mabini
Pilar Jose Mabini of Hanapepe passed away on May 12, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on June 9, 1937, and was the laundry supervisor at Up to Date Cleaners.
She is preceded in passing by her son Nestor Mabini, her parents Salvador and Evarista Jose, her sisters Priscilla Jose Acoba, Aida Visitacion and Francesca Jose.
Pilar is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Dennis Mabini, her children Elmer (Eden) Mabini, Darlene (Ruben) Soriano, Estrella Cacal, Imelda (Robert) Douglas, Estela (Bret) Drewelow, siblings Villamor (Lasing) Jose, Natividad Mabini, Pepito (Gloria) Jose, Reynalda (Renato) Acoba, Vincent (Lynne) Jose, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, May 23, 2024, with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m., a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. and burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

April K. Reis-Meyer, 80, of Kapa‘a passed away at home on Jan. 9, 2024. She was born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, on Feb. 1, 1943, and retired from Beach Boy Hotel as a front desk clerk.
Preceded in death by her first husband Jerry Reis, second husband Gerry Meyer, parents August and Katherine Kane Sr., brother August Kane Jr. and sister Katherine Matsushima.
April is survived by her children Jerilyn Pang Ching of Hilo, Jonathan (Roxanne) Reis, Matthew (Michelle) Reis, grandchildren Joshua (Ali) Pang Ching of Hilo, Jenna (Jovan) Crockett of Utah, Kevin (Shalee Mundon) Reis of Kapahi, Brandon (Shaynee Kamoku) Reis, Jon Reis, Janelle (Trent Alianic) Reis of Las Vegas, Crystal Reis, Christina (Charles) Lee, Jesse (Courtney Parbo) Reis, Kailea Reis, 15 great-grandchildren, siblings Joann Kane, Lowell Kane, Keala (Tony) Prem, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Royce Takeo Ebesu, of Kapa‘a, passed away on March 27, 2024, in Kapa‘a at the age of 92. He was born on Sept. 23, 1931, in Kapa‘a. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired Postmaster.
He was preceded in death by father Shuichi Ebesu, mother Tsuruko Torii, son Royce Ebesu Jr., brothers Robert Shinke, Joseph Ebesu and sister Thelma Sonobe.
Royce is survived by wife Helen Ebesu, sons Glenn (Linda) Ebesu of Kapa‘a, Scott Ebesu of Lihu‘e, daughter-in-law Janey Ebesu, grandchildren Royce (R. T.) (Samantha Koga) Ebesu, Dr. Travis (Kellie) Ebesu, Ema-lani Ebesu, great-grandchildren Miya Ebesu, Tessa Ebesu, stepbrother Edward Torii, sister Amy Morita, stepsister Mildred Matsuyoshi, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aimee Chieko Inouye, 63, of Koloa, passed away at home on April 15, 2024. She was born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, on Aug. 30, 1960, and recently retired as a Library Technician V with the Hawai‘i Public Library System.
Preceded in death by her parents Kiyoshi and Ruth Inouye.
She is survived by her brothers Eric (Linda) Inouye, Nelson Inouye, one nephew, one niece and numerous cousins.
