LIHU‘E — A couple of County of Kaua‘i recreational areas are being closed in order for maintenance work to be done ahead of the summer season.
The Department of Parks and Recreation said Kalena Park in Lihu‘e is being shuttered in order to add more parking stops and replace a chain link fence with concrete ball barriers.
A Community Development Block Grant of more than $259,000 is being used to pay for the work. ExerPlay is the general contractor for the project.
On the other side of the island, the Waimea Athletics Field Playground and skateboard half-pipe will be closed for renovations from April 29 through June 1.
The closures are necessary in order to construct an inclusive playground and make Americans with Disabilities Act renovations.
The general contractor for the project will be Pacific Blue Construction. InspiredPlay, LLC will install the playground.
