LIHU‘E — MaBel Ferreiro Fujiuchi, the Chief Executive Officer for the Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity (KEO), announced the expansion of relief efforts in recognition of the immense challenges faced by families affected by the Maui wildfires.
KEO is offering essential assistance to people who have resettled on Kaua‘i following the tragedy in August 2023.
In partnership with Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. (MEO), KEO is expanding relief efforts for Maui wildfire victims relocating to Kaua‘i through the Maui Relief Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program (TANF).
The TANF program provides crucial support to families who have suffered property loss or damage, experienced a reduction in earnings or employment due to the emergency and have at least one dependent child. Eligibility for assistance is determined based on meeting income guidelines.
Eligible families can access funds for various essential needs, including housing, vehicle payments, utilities, clothing and school supplies for school-aged children. To qualify for support, families must fulfill specific eligibility criteria, including:
• Residency in Hawai‘i.
• Presence of at least one dependent child up to 24 years old under care of a relative.
• Direct impact by the wildfires resulting in property loss or damage, or loss of earnings or employment
• Annual gross income not exceeding 350 percent of the 2023 Hawai‘i federal poverty level, equating to $79,380 for a family of two, or $120,750 for a family of four.
The TANF program aims to alleviate the financial strain on families affected by the Maui fire, ensuring they have access to critical resources as they embark on their journey to recovery.
