The Garden Island receptionist Brandee Javier was excited when the phalaenopsis she had been tending to for several months decided it was time to open its bud on Wednesday morning. Mahalo to a generous TGI reader for presenting her the plant in bloom so she had a project to tend to after the flowers were spent.

Are you ready for excitement? The Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School Team Unify and the CKMS Leadership Class are hosting a color run with Special Olympics Kaua‘i athletes on Friday night starting at 6:30 p.m. at the school’s campus to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics program.
Kukui Grove Center is the site of a kendama (did you see how many of them there were at Coach Curt Colby’s retirement ceremony?) tournament that’s being coordinated by Sheldon Peralta and Bubbah’s Toy Box on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
Bubbah’s Toy Box is next to the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery, which is currently hosting its Spring Show through March 29 where Queen Piarei (she was heading to buy ‘ukulele strings on Maui before being detoured to Kaua‘i by the August wildfires) discovered artist Kimberly Kirk, who is having a one-person show in July … and who is the artist that’s planning to enter the postage stamp contest with a rendering of an endangered bird?
On the way to Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis that opens on Saturday — Island School travels to the Waimea High School courts, and Kaua‘i High School visits Kapa‘a High School — Padraic Gallagher and the Red Cross Kaua‘i volunteers are teaming up with the Kaua‘i Fire Department to install fire alarms for homes in the Kaumakani area … remember when they did the project in Anahola?
