Kawika Medeiros, born in Nanakuli on O‘ahu, used an instrument by Benson Broyles to earn first place in the adult division, and Michael Yamane came home from Fresno, California, to win second place. Liz Hahn said Broyles, a social studies teacher, took the Scotty’s Choice Byron Hahn-Morin ‘Kupa‘a’ Award for best picking — you dunno if you no try.
