Adopt a Hawaiian plant on Kaua‘i

The exotic bloom of a New Zealand variety of the wiliwili opens on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024 on the campus of the Kaua‘i Community College.

The wiliwili (Erythrina sandwicensis) is the free plant available for adoption on March 16 at either the National Tropical Botanical Gardens South Shore Visitor Center or Limahuli Gardens.

KALAHEO — Starting on March 16, and continuing in ensuing months on the third Saturday, people are able to adopt a plant, or heritage crop, for planting in their own yard, the National Tropical Botanical Gardens announced.
