PUHI — Susan Pittman, of Clayworks at Kilohana announced the return of Souper Sunday for Sunday, the date of the National Football League Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
“We’re back stronger than ever,” Pittman said. “This is our first Souper Sunday after being shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Souper Bowl is a fundraiser benefiting the Lihu‘e Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies program, which supplies community agencies with hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, a healthy snack and juice in a brown bag that originally was meant for the homeless population each week. Over the years, the Mobile Munchies has fed children after school with snacks, and hungry people who visit the various agencies’ relief days.
“This year, Chef Jason is creating chili and rice with one, or two vegetable soup selections,” Pittman said. “We’re starting from 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, and everything should be done by 12:30 p.m. in time for the television kickoff.”
Souper Sunday patrons receive their choice of a handmade soup bowl filled with the soup of their choice for a nominal donation that benefits the Lihu‘e Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies program. The soup bowl is the patron’s to take once the soup is gone.
