Two Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls soccer teams — the Division II top-seeded Kaua‘i High School and Kapa‘a High School — are still in the chase for the state title following the quarterfinals played on Thursday at the Motiv8 Foundation Hawai‘i High School Girls Soccer State Championship matches at Waipio Soccer Complex.
Two Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls soccer teams — the Division II top-seeded Kaua‘i High School and Kapa‘a High School — are still in the chase for the state title following the quarterfinals played on Thursday at the Motiv8 Foundation Hawai‘i High School Girls Soccer State Championship matches at Waipio Soccer Complex.
Waimea High School, the third KIF representative to the Division II championship matches, was eliminated from the chase after being shut out 3-0 by Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i during the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Big Island Warrior ladies iced their victory in the 73rd minute on a goal from Rebekah Silinga. Mia Chow opened the scoring in the fifth minute, and Alohi Kalaola-Maruquin’s goal in the 19th minute gave the KSH a 2-0 bulge heading into the break.
Julia Durocher and Kailee-Ann Baltazar sparked the Kapa‘a Warriors who upset No. 3 seed Kalani, 2-0 in another quarterfinal contest at the rain-moistened Waipio fields. Durocher found the net, first in the 14th minute and Baltazar took Kapa‘a to a 2-0 halftime lead with her goal in the 30th minute.
With the top seed, Kaua‘i High School girls entered the chase in the quarterfinals where the Red Raiders got past the Leilehua Mules on a 5-2 note. Coral Turner got the victory rolling in the fourth minute, followed by a goal from Carly Dela Cruz in the 22nd minute. Kylah Racca steered the Red Raiders to a 3-1 edge at the break with her goal in the final minute before the half.
Coming off the break, the Red Raiders went on a 2-1 second half on goals from Aileah Villatora in the 50th minutes and Keira Bartholomew in the 54th minute.
Leilehua’s goals came from Zoe Maikai in the sixth minute and Alexyz Nakamoto in the 53rd minute.
With the wins, Kapa‘a was scheduled to play No. 2 seed Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i on Friday at the Waipio Soccer Complex. That matchup was to be followed by the top seeded Kaua‘i High School facing off against PAC-5, who was a 4-0 winner over Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy during the quarterfinals.
The Division II championships will take place at the Waipio Soccer Complex on Saturday starting at 5 p.m.
