Rossiter Ronald Kamealoha Oana, Sr.
Rossiter Ronald Kamealoha Oana, Sr., of Kalaheo, passed away on Jan. 4, 2024, in Kalaheo at the age of 84. He was born on Jan. 23, 1939, in Lihu‘e. He was a telephone linesman with Hawaiian Tel Company and a long-time musician with the Punuas.
He was preceded in death by parents Stanley Manaia Oana, Sr., Elizabeth Leialoha Kanoho Oana, wife Marjorie Napua Rodrigues Oana, son Rosswell Raoul Kaleolani Oana, granddaughter Weslyn Jerves, grandson Don Sadomiano, brother Stanley Manaia (Smokey) Oana, Jr., sisters Eleanor Leinaala Carvalho, Flora Ornellas and son-in-law Wesley Jerves.
He is survived by wife Victoria Navarro Oana, sons Rossiter R. K. A service will be held at Lihu‘e Lutheran Church on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024. Visitation is from 8 to 9 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 9 a.m. The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Alfonso Albert Garcia Sr.
Alfonso Albert Garcia Sr., 94, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan. 12, 2024. He was born Oct. 27, 1929 on Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ayako Taira Garcia, children Jo Ann (Robert) Hema, Christine (Mark Sr.) Watten, Peggy (Patrick) Labuguen, Candice (Will) Ancheta, brothers Juan (Loretto) Garcia, Benjamin (Gwen) Garcia, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gabino and Cristina Dela Cruz Garcia, children Glenda (Jon) Buis, Alfonso Albert Garcia Jr., brothers Marcellino and Bonifacio (Magdalena) Garcia, sisters Magdalena (Hermogenes) Romero and Emiteria (Antero) Nerpio.
He worked for the gas company on Kaua‘i for 36 years before retiring as Operations Supervisor. He served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard and retired as a staff Sergeant serving during the Korean War and saw active combat in the Vietnam War. He was active in various Veterans groups and in several Community groups including the Lihu‘e Senior Center and the Agency on Elderly Affairs as a volunteer.
A celebration of Alfonso’s life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e with visitation from 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m. Aloha attire suggested.

Felicitas Dancel Caalim
Felicitas Dancel Caalim, 92, of Lawa‘i, passed away on Jan. 16, 2024, at Garden Isle Rehab & Nursing. She was born on May 31, 1931, in Pasuquin, Philippines. She was a field worker.
She was preceded in death by husband Pedro Caalim, parents Pantaleon and Procesa Dancel, sisters Francisca Bulosan, Gaudelia Ganal, and brother Gavino Dancel.
She is survived by son Peter (Jocelyn) Caalim of Lawa‘i, daughters Clavelina Caalim of Mililani, Wilma (David) Aguirre of Eastvale, California, Lorna (Ioane) Lopes of Lawa‘i, grandchildren Kodi (Jamie) Rachwal-Oyama, Jorden DeCosta-Caalim (Daylin), Jaden DeCosta-Caalim (Tyler), Mikayla Aguirre (Ulysses), Jamelyn DeCosta-Caalim (Raine), Pomaile (Kahanu) Malama, Joseph Aguirre, Marlayna Aguirre, Katelyn Lopes, great-grandchildren Hunter Rachwal-Oyama, Vaea Caalim-Huni, Wrenly Rachwal-Oyama, brother Antonio (Herminia) Dancel of Pasuquin, Philippines, sisters Catalina (Alfonso) Palma of Laoag City, Philippines, Teresita (Edilon) Guerrero of Cannes, France, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Parmalee Lois Dato
Parmalee Lois Dato, of Kapa‘a, died on Jan. 22, 2024, at the age of 69. Born April 11, 1954, in Lihu’e, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed sharing cooking/baking recipes with her grandchildren and would often cook/bake with them.
She was preceded in death by her father Alfred Perreira, mother Violet Lawrence Gouveia Perreira, brothers Melvin Perreira, Jack “Jackie” Silva of California, George “Patrick” Silva of the Philippines and sister Linda Cromey of Indiana.
She is survived by her husband Dennis W. Dato, children Dennis “DJ” (Haunani) Dato of Kilauea, Bryan Dato of Washington, Tamee (Darren) De Silva of Kapa‘a, brothers Glenn (Cindy) Silva of Honolulu, Wayne (Anelle) Perriera of Lihu‘e, sisters Cheryl (Rudy) Miranda of Moloa‘a, and Corlene Rapozo of Lihu‘e, 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Victoria Banua, of Kekaha, passed away on Jan. 4, 2024, in Kekaha at the age of 89. She was born on May 27, 1934, in Mana, Kaua‘i. She was an operations scheduler for the Federal Government at PMRF.
She was preceded in death by husband Herbert Santana Banua, parents Placido and Hertrudes Tango, sisters Felisa Natividad and Magdalena Mayo.

Jeremiah G. Nerpio, Sr., of Kapa‘a, passed away on Jan. 19, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born on July 24, 1951. He was a security guard.
He was preceded in death by wife Sharon Nerpio.
He is survived by sons Jeremiah G. Nerpio, Jr., Chad Justin Nerpio (Ashley), Brandon Kawika Nerpio (Lisa), Levi Paul Nerpio (Nani), daughter Phaedra Talia Figlinski (Tim), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witness in Kekaka. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. followed by service at 3 p.m. The family requests aloha attire.

Llewellyn “Blondie” Makaikiu Woodward, 72, of Anahola, passed away at home on Jan. 17, 2024. He was born in Anini, Kaua‘i on Oct. 24, 1951.
Preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Edith Woodward, brothers Samuel, Stanley, Dayne (Dolly-dec), and sister Heather Hokulani Woodward.
Llewellyn is survived by his wife Nadine Woodward, children Llewellyn “Pake” (Laralei Kamele) Woodward, Leslie (Einei) Woodward, Leighann “Kanoe” (Leeroy “Makaiwa”) Gunn, grandchildren Llewellyn “Makaikiu”, Cephas, Jodi, Moses, Wyatt, Memphis, Hanai, Soldier, Jacob, Kainoa, brothers Hayden (Jackie) Woodward, Darriel (Iris-dec) Woodward, sister Celeste (Ted-dec.) Alfonso “Bradda” Martin, Jr., of Kalaheo, passed away peacefully at home with his “Hon” children and grandchildren on Dec. 26, 2023, at the age of 65. He was born on Jan. 6, 1958, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He was a retired maintenance/mechanic worker for Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.

Manuel Frank Rivera, Jr.
Manuel Frank Rivera, Jr., of Kekaha, passed away on Jan. 8, 2024, at home at the age of 81. He was born on Feb. 2, 1942, in Kekaha. He was a shipping and receiving manager and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by wife Geraldine Rivera, daughter Karen Marie Rivera, parents Manuel Rivera, Sr., Elizabeth Rivera, sisters Virginia Madera and Ramona Rivera.
He is survived by son Manuel Rivera III of Kekaha, daughter Lesley Rivera of Hilo, grandchild Kiana Marie Palos, great-grandchild Starlight Palos, brothers Vincent Rivera (Luwika) of Hilo, Martin Rivera of Murrieta, California, sister Elizabeth “Didy” Gonsalves of Reno, Nevada, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hidemi Miyasaki
Hidemi Miyasaki, 94, left this world peacefully on Jan. 3, 2024, the eve of his 95th birthday. He was surrounded by family in his Kilauea hometown. The time had come for him to be reunited with his parents, Chika and Yonesaburo Miyasaki. He would also be reunited with his nine brothers and sisters and many others who preceded him. He would have so much to talk about.
Hidemi worked his way through Kilauea Sugar Company. He was a supervisor when it closed. He relocated his family to Hamakua Sugar Company until his retirement. Hidemi loved to spend his time growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers. He loved the sea and spent many hours fishing. Hidemi was always supported by Doris, his wife of 69 years. Together, they raised four children: Susan (Garry Dacanay) Arakaki, David (Julie) Miyasaki, Mark Miyasaki, and Lori (Damian Baptiste) Miyasaki-Baptiste.
When Hidemi became a grandpa, he was truly in his element. Grandchildren were his reward in life: Melanie Hamachi, Jamie (David) Shiira, Bryson (Danielle) Miyasaki, Shereen (Henry) Lee, Stephanie (Shannon) Chung, Kristen Miyasaki, and Kerri Nagasawa.
His great-grandchildren loved their Papa dearly: Kaden Shiira, Nathan Arakaki-Lee, Lexie Hamachi, Cylar Miyasaki, Darian Miyasaki, Riley Chung, Avery Arakaki-Lee, Harley Arakaki-Lee, Kayla Shiira, Reagan Chung and Chase Sukekane. Papa always said they will meet again at the end of the rainbow.
A celebration of Hidemi’s life will be on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at All Saints Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. followed by service at 10 a.m. For those unable to attend, Hidemi has asked that you think of happy times. Then share a smile.
Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Nui Garma Carvalho
Elizabeth “Lisa” Nui Garma Carvalho, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Nov. 12, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 77. She was born on Feb. 3, 1946, in Lihu‘e. She was the owner of Shanora of Kaua‘i, a retired seamstress and a cashier at Wailua Country Store.
She was preceded in death by father Nomeriano Carlos, mother Nora Dias and sister Dorothy Yatsuoka.
She is survived by husband Gilbert “Gilly” Carvalho, son Norbert “Keone” (Cheryl) Garma of Lihu‘e, daughters Noralyn (Tamio) Hasegawa of Kapa‘a, Shanlee (James) Jimenez of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Tamalyn Hasegawa, Tyren Hasegawa, Torrie Hasegawa, Tyrus (Cori) Hasegawa, Ashlee (Kiah) Imai, Jamilee (Wayne) Jimenez, Krystian (Mikki) Garma, Caylee Garma, great-grandchildren Dayden Paahao, Saydee Paahao, Kian Imai, brothers Norman (Lourdes) Carlos of Kapa‘a, Sal (Isabella) Talha of Carson, California, William (Radrik) Carlos of Lihu‘e, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jessica “Jessie” Louise Coyamin, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Jan. 5, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 64. She was born on Jan. 25, 1959, in Lihu‘e. She was employed at Puakea Golf Course as a groundskeeper and worked part-time for various rent-a-car companies before the pandemic.
Jessie was an awesome person who loved to roll dice with friends and spending time with her family and friends on special occasions. She will be sadly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by mother Francisca “Frances” Agao Rapozo and nephew Lenson William Coyamin Perez.
She is survived by her father Rosario “Ross” Coyamin, step-father Donald Rapozo Sr., siblings Russell (Pamela) Coyamin Sr., Rebecca “Becky” (Ricky Imada) Coyamin, Donald (Danielle Pelletier) Rapozo Jr., children Shayleen (Roderick Bagaoisan) Louis-Coyamin, Jennifer (Albert Maghanoy, Jr.) Louis, Melissa (John Krause) Louis, Reuben Louis, 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, hanai-sisters Ulu Urwiler and Janell Efhan, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
