Rossiter Ronald Kamealoha Oana, Sr.
Rossiter Ronald Kamealoha Oana, Sr., of Kalaheo, passed away on Jan. 4, 2024, in Kalaheo at the age of 84. He was born on Jan. 23, 1939, in Lihu‘e. He was a telephone linesman with Hawaiian Tel Company and a long-time musician with the Punuas.
He was preceded in death by parents Stanley Manaia Oana, Sr., Elizabeth Leialoha Kanoho Oana, wife Marjorie Napua Rodrigues Oana, son Rosswell Raoul Kaleolani Oana, granddaughter Weslyn Jerves, grandson Don Sadomiano, brother Stanley Manaia (Smokey) Oana, Jr., sisters Eleanor Leinaala Carvalho, Flora Ornellas and son-in-law Wesley Jerves.
He is survived by wife Victoria Navarro Oana, sons Rossiter R. K. Elizabeth “Lisa” Nui Garma Carvalho, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Nov. 12, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 77. She was born on Feb. 3, 1946, in Lihu‘e. She was the owner of Shanora of Kaua‘i, a retired seamstress and a cashier at Wailua Country Store.
She was preceded in death by father Nomeriano Carlos, mother Nora Dias and sister Dorothy Yatsuoka.
She is survived by husband Gilbert “Gilly” Carvalho, son Norbert “Keone” (Cheryl) Garma of Lihu‘e, daughters Noralyn (Tamio) Hasegawa of Kapa‘a, Shanlee (James) Jimenez of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Tamalyn Hasegawa, Tyren Hasegawa, Torrie Hasegawa, Tyrus (Cori) Hasegawa, Ashlee (Kiah) Imai, Jamilee (Wayne) Jimenez, Krystian (Mikki) Garma and Caylee Garma, great-grandchildren Dayden Paahao, Saydee Paahao and Kian Imai, brothers Norman (Lourdes) Carlos of Kapa‘a, Sal (Isabella) Talha of Carson, California, William (Radrik) Carlos of Lihu‘e, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Felipe Restituto Bumagat
Felipe Restituto Bumagat, born on Aug. 23, 1928, in Binsang, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He retired from the Bacarra Ilocos Norte Police Force before moving to Hawai‘i. He also retired as a ground maintenance at Kaua‘i Grove Farm Company in 1998.
A World War II veteran of the United States Armed Forces in the Far East, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal on Oct. 12, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Avelina U. Bumagat, father Silvino Cariaga of Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, mother Gregoria Bumagat Medrano of Bacarra, Ilcos Norte, Philippines, brothers Felicisimo Cariaga, Virginio Cariaga, Juan Cariaga, Hilario Cariaga of Pasuquin, Florentino Cariaga of New Jersey, Pedro Medrano, Ernesto Medrano of Bacarra, sisters Genoveva Cariaga, Anselma Cariaga of Pasuquin and Filomena Medrano-Sagucio.

Daniel Keolamana Ka‘aumoana, of Kekaha, passed away on Dec. 28, 2023, at the age of 15. He was born on Sept. 16, 2008, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He was a student at Waimea High School.
He was preceded in death by his grandma Merla-Ann Ka‘aumoana.

Claridad “Inos” Madrid Tangonan, 94, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Dec. 29, 2023. She was born in Lihu‘e on June 25, 1929, and worked as a papaya packer at Best Fruit Cannery.
She was preceded in passing by her loving husband of 75 years, Florencio Tangonan, son Macario Tangonan, parents Ignacio and Juliana Madrid, siblings Venancio Madri, Esabella Ramelb, Rosalina Fernandez and Napoleon Madrid.
Claridad “Inos” is survived by her children Rizal Tangonan, Consolacion Antonio, Noralyn (Nestor) Arizabal, Carmen Butac, grandchildren Agnes (Jose) Bermudez, Alvin Antonio, Lhaylalyn Tangonan, Rotsen Arizabal, Cheryl Arizabal, great-grandchildren Lorenalyn and Jhayden Maldonado.

Edward J. Cremer, of Puhi, Kaua‘i, passed away on Dec. 30, 2023 at the age of 73. He was born in Waimea on April 10, 1950. He was a tractor-trailer driver for Kaua‘i Commercial Co. and later worked for Aloha Isle Moving.
He was preceded in death by parents Reinhold and Margaret Cremer, wife Lyvonne Cremer, sisters Loraine Medeiros, Marianne Lizama, Jeanette Tu, brothers Robert Cremer, Reinhold Cremer and Eric Cremer.
He is survived by children Kyle (Mila Alayvilla) Cremer of Lihu‘e, Lynette (George) Cavaco of San Diego, California, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sisters Loretta Johnson, Bernadette Reynolds, Elizabeth Owens, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by services.
Jessica ‘Jessie’ Louise Coyamin
Jessica “Jessie” Louise Coyamin, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Jan. 5, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 64. She was born on Jan. 25, 1959, in Lihu‘e.
She was employed at Puakea Golf Course as a groundskeeper and worked part-time for various rent-a-car companies before the pandemic.
Jessie was an awesome person who loved to roll dice with friends and spending time with her family and friends on special occasions. She will be sadly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by mother Francisca “Frances” Agao Rapozo and nephew Lenson William Coyamin Perez.
She is survived by her father Rosario “Ross” Coyamin, step-father Donald Rapozo Sr., siblings Russell (Pamela) Coyamin Sr., Rebecca “Becky” (Ricky Imada) Coyamin, Donald (Danielle Pelletier) Rapozo Jr., children Shayleen (Roderick Bagaoisan) Louis-Coyamin, Jennifer (Albert Maghanoy, Jr.) Louis, Melissa (John Krause) Louis, Reuben Louis, 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, hanai-sisters Ulu Urwiler, Janell Efhan, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janet Pualani Kali Ortiz, of Hanapepe, passed away on Jan. 19, 2024, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, at the age of 85. She was born on June 4, 1938. She was a retired custodian at ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by husband Lucas Ortiz, son Stanley Ortiz, parents Robert and Lei Kali, brothers and sisters, John Ham-Young, Lei Niau, Abraham Ham-Young, Joseph Ham-Young, Richard Ham-Young, Clara Kali, Winnie Kali, Benjamin Kali and Rebecca Kali.
She is survived by her sons Randall (Krissy) Ortiz of Kalaheo, Charles (Nieva) Ortiz of Hanapepe, grandchildren Ranasha Kanahele, Ola Kanahele, Charlyn Ortiz, Kelsey Ortiz, Kiani Ortiz, great-grandchildren Chaslin Ortiz, Keane Miyamoto-Hosaka, brother Robert Ortiz of Hilo, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert Jean Prosser
Robert Jean Prosser, of Kilauea, Hawai‘i, passed away at his home on Jan. 14, 2024, at the age of 93. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 10, 1930, and was the owner of Prosser Realty and PS&D Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife Maria Burns-Prosser and parents Eulan and Shirley Prosser.
Robert is survived by his children Todd (Reyna) Burns, Casey (Mike) Empey, grandchildren Jackson and Finn Empey, Caleb and Marina Burns, Breyden, Zariyah and Kairey, and great-grandson Hunter.

Asayo ‘Sai’ Sakahara
Asayo “Sai” Sakahara peacefully passed away at home on Dec. 15, 2023.
Preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1986 and her son Glenn in May 2023.
She is survived by her son Howard, daughter Melanie Willis, grandchildren Matthew Willis, Jacqueline Womble, Howard Jr. and Justin Sakahara, Maile Horikawa and several great-grandchildren.
Born in 1921, Sai was the youngest of six children of the Saikichi and Sawayo Hashimoto family of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i. Her friends from the Hawaiian Telephone Company and the Engineering Office of the County of Kaua‘i, U.S. Naval Station Midway Island, and her friends from the Burke Lake senior golfers and various senior clubs of Fairfax, Virginia will remember her graciousness and her heartwarming smile.
A memorial service will be held at the Pearl City Hongwanji Mission temple on Jan. 31, 2024.
Elizabeth Kuualoha Redongo
Elizabeth Kuualoha Redongo, of Koloa, passed away on Jan. 16, 2024, at Hospice Maui Hale, at the age of 80. She was born on April 8, 1943, on O‘ahu. She was previously employed with Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary and Garden Island Mortuary.
She was preceded in death by husband Lawrence “Sonny” Redongo.
She is survived by son John “Otto” (Angie Federici) Redongo, daughters Lori Lee Redongo, Leah Ann Redongo, Laura Ann (Anthony) Kaahanui, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa on Friday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery.

Alfonso “Bradda” Martin, Jr., of Kalaheo, passed away peacefully at home with his “Hon” children and grandchildren on Dec. 26, 2023, at the age of 65. He was born on Jan. 6, 1958, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He was a retired maintenance/mechanic worker for Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Larry Coy McKnight
Dr. Larry Coy McKnight, 79, of Kapa‘a, passed away at home on Jan. 1, 2024. He was born in Arizona on Feb. 19, 1944, and retired as an Internal Medicine Doctor after 30 years at Kaua‘i Medical Clinic and Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Preceded in death by his parents Ira and Laura McKnight, brother Jesse McKnight and sister Arleva Sena.
Dr. Larry McKnight is survived by his wife Cynthia McKnight, children Jennifer (Stanley) Camiccia, Ryan (Michele) McKnight, Melissa (Christopher) Casale, David (Amy) Milnes, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Larry had a good life. He was well liked, admired and loved by those who knew him. He will be terribly missed. Forever in our thoughts and hearts. Winnie the Pooh: How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Alfonso Albert Garcia Sr.
Alfonso Albert Garcia Sr., 94, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan. 12, 2024. He was born Oct. 27, 1929 on Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ayako Taira Garcia, children Joann (Robert) Hema, Christine (Mark Sr.) Watten, Peggy (Patrick) Labuguen,Candice (Will) Ancheta, brothers Juan (Loretto) Garcia, Benjamin (Gwen) Garcia, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gabino and Cristina Dela Cruz Garcia, children Glenda (Jon) Buis, Alfonso Albert Garcia Jr., brothers Marcellino and Bonifacio (Magdalena) Garcia, sisters Magdalena (Hermogenes) Romero and Emiteria (Antero) Nerpio.
He worked for the gas company on Kaua‘i for 36 years before retiring as Operations Supervisor. He served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard and retired as a staff Sergeant serving during the Korean War and saw active combat in the Vietnam War. He was active in various Veterans groups and in several Community groups including the Lihu‘e Senior Center and the Agency on Elderly Affairs as a volunteer.
A celebration of Alfonso’s life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihue with visitation from 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m. Aloha attire suggested.

Harry J. McCarthy
February 24, 1941 – January 8, 2024
Harry McCarthy of Koloa, Hawai‘i, passed away on Jan. 8, 2024. He was born Feb. 24, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Harry J. “Pat” and Helen (née Naulty) McCarthy. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. and Seattle, as a King County Superior Court judge in Seattle, and as a Commissioner on the Hawai‘i State Ethics Commission while in Kaua‘i. He graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California, in 1958, and St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California, in 1962, and earned his law degree at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California, in 1965.
He was married to Carole (née Parenti) in 1962 and together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Together they travelled the world. He loved baseball and the occasional game of golf. In 2017 they finally settled in Koloa, on their beloved island of Kaua‘i, where, appointed by the governor, he served as a commissioner on the Hawai‘i State Ethics Commission until his end.
Harry is survived by his wife, Carole, daughter Michelle Beck (Roger), grandchildren Paul Humphries, Harry Humphries (Angela Neice), Katy Humphries, sister Agnes Collins, many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and former colleagues.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son Christopher, siblings Robert, Donald and Patricia.
A funeral Mass, followed by an inurnment ceremony and celebration of his life, will be held at St. James Cathedral in Seattle, where he was a parishioner for 40 years.
