Mildred Tazuko Kurihara
Mildred Tazuko Kurihara, of Wailua Houselots, passed away on Dec. 20, 2023, in Lihu‘e at the age of 91. She was born on Jan. 31, 1932, in Wailua. She was a secretary/receptionist for Mokihana Insurance and a store proprietor of Togikawa Store.
She was preceded in death by husband Howard Kurihara, parents Hideo and Yukiko Togikawa, brothers Albert Togikawa, Robert Togikawa, in-laws Eizo and Katsu Kurihara and son-in-law Jeffrey Lindemann.
She is survived by daughters Gale Lindemann of Kaua‘i, Jan (Keith) Tatsuguchi of O‘ahu, four grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, sister Jane (Paul) Okamoto of Hawai‘i (Big Island), brother-in-law Asahi Okamoto, sisters-in-law Eleanor Togikawa of O‘ahu, Betty Togikawa of Indiana, Sanae Saito of Maui, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at the Kapa‘a Jodo Mission. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Donations in her memory can be made to Kaua‘i Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Many, many thanks to Lalaine Rabalno and staff, the Kaua‘i Hospice staff and Garden Isle Rehab & Long-Term 2nd floor nurses, aides and staff for the loving care provided for our mom.

Michael ‘Mikie’ Kamali‘i O’ Ke Akua Kealoha Lagmay
Michael “Mikie” Kamali‘i O’ Ke Akua Kealoha Lagmay passed away in Kapa‘a on Jan. 6, 2024, at the age of 31. He was born on Dec. 17, 1992, in Hawai‘i.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Hannah Noblisse and Harry Hoskins and grandparents Hannah and Narciso Lagmay.
He is survived by parents Benny (Tonya) Lagmay, brothers Jason (Claudia) Lagmay, Benny (Tasha Cleveland) Lagmay, Gabriel Lagmay, Daniel (Sara Liberto) Lagmay and sister Jaylin (Antonio Curran) Lagmay.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at ‘Ohana Christian Fellowship, 4531 Pouli Street #106, Kapa‘a, with services from 10 a.m. to noon.

Janet Pualani Kali Ortiz
Janet Pualani Kali Ortiz, of Hanapepe, passed away on Jan. 19, 2024, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, at the age of 85. She was born on June 4, 1938. She was a retired custodian at ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by husband Lucas Ortiz, son Stanley Ortiz, parents Robert and Lei Kali, brothers and sisters, John Ham-Young, Lei Niau, Abraham Ham-Young, Joseph Ham-Young, Richard Ham-Young, Clara Kali, Winnie Kali, Benjamin Kali and Rebecca Kali.
She is survived by her sons Randall (Krissy) Ortiz of Kalaheo and Charles (Nieva) Ortiz of Hanapepe, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother Robert Ortiz of Hilo, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kalaheo Ward. Visitation is from 9 to 10:45 a.m. followed by services from 11 a.m. to noon. The family requests aloha attire.
