LIHU‘E — A feature film, “Too Much Life,” is scheduled to premiere on Friday at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
Tickets for the film, which was produced on Kaua‘i and utilized local players and talent, are available online at toomuchlife.com.
“It’s not just a scene,” Edwin Sawyer, a writer and producer of “Too Much Life” told The Garden Island in a 2017 interview. “It’s like a party for our island. It’s like a celebration that we’re sharing as story that came from our schools, that we’re sharing it with the world.”
The movie revolves around the impact of social media and cyberbullying of a popular student, and how her online world leads her to make decisions that affect her offline world in increasingly negative ways.
Elliot Lucas of the Kaua‘i Film Academy is the producer of the movie.
“The lead character of ‘Too Much Life’ loses control of her online world resulting in a series of decisions that hurt her family and friends,” Lucas told TGI in the 2017 interview.
The Kaua‘i Film Academy, producing more than 100 videos of five to 10 minutes, and several longer films, including “What’s not said,” and “Still Serving,” has not lost sight of its singular goal of making a full-length, feature film with Kaua‘i-sourced people.
“We might have to bring on a few actors from off-island, but we’re using all Kaua‘i people in this film for everything — even for the food,” Sawyer told TGI in 2016. “We’re using Kaua‘i first.”
Overcoming the obstacles like fundraising for the project locally, and working around schedules of the many people involved in producing the film, Lucas said crews will be working through the night on Thursday to ensure the production’s readiness for the silver screen.
Some of the Kaua‘i-sourced talent includes people who perform with the Kaua‘i High School girls volleyball team and recent Island School graduate Bradley Pratt, who earned accolades from Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami for his achievements during an internship as a summer hire and extended to include school breaks during the year.
“Bradley’s coming home from college just for the premiere,” Lucas said. “We also aired a trailer at the Kukui Grove Center, recently.”
The evening starts with the premiere hoopla of red carpets and photo shoots from around 6 p.m. on Friday. The cast and film VIPs arrive at 6:30 p.m. with the doors to the theatre opening at 7 p.m.
