LIHU‘E — A high surf warning is in effect for west- and north-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau, the National Weather Service and County of Kaua‘i Fire Department said Tuesday.
The warning extends until 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The warning may be dropped, extended or modified.
The forecast calls for surf to build, and then peak through Wednesday, at 25 to 30 feet on the North Shore of Kaua‘i and 15 to 25 feet on the West Shore.
“Entering the water in these areas during the high surf warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death,” the fire department said. “Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those (people) standing along the shoreline.”
