KILAUEA — The Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, the historic stone church in Kilauea, welcomed Rev. Catherine Amy Kropp to a full-time position.
Kropp arrived on Nov. 1 from Alaska where she organized the Diocese of Alaska’s inspirational Dancing With The Spirit music outreach program connecting youth and elders in remote Alaska Native People villages. During her tenure in Alaska, Kropp served St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Anchorage and traveled to communities throughout coastal and interior Alaska.
She also spent seven months volunteering abroad as part of an interfaith mission teaching vulnerable youths in Lebanon with Relief & Reconcilliation prior to serving as Priest in Residence here on Kaua‘i.
Christ Memorial lay leader Rebecca Hullum and the church’s Bishop Committee endorse “Catherine Amy’s understanding of diversity and appreciation of music and community outreach,” factors that are important not just for Christ Memorial, but the entire North Shore of Kaua‘i.
Her diversity training and experience as a former high school teacher provide both academic credentials and, on the ground, day-to-day public service.
Christ Memorial said everyone is welcome to the performances and services taking place in the church sanctuary.
This includes Christmas Eve Candlelight Services on Dec. 24 starting at 7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., and Christmas Day Service on Dec. 25, which starts at 9 a.m.
